This has its own thread
As mentioned on the âARN acquisition of Southern Cross Austereoâ thread:
Whatâs the general gist of the article, why donât they need them?
The current model of affiliation works well for Paramount
Yep - regional Ten is just a cost centre - the regional affiliate pays you 50%ish of revenue and takes on 100% of the costs of transmission, local content, sales staff, etc.
Iâd think Seven Tasmania covers up for the sheer losses theyâd be making in just about every other market, as the article quotes the TV division as +$19m before EBITDA. Seven Central (QQQ) would be making a loss if itâs anything like Imparja in terms of how poor that ad market is, the joint venture stations are all a drain, and maybe they make enough in Vic and SNSW to cover costs?
Maybe SEN can have some TV thrown in with the radio licenses theyâll probably get out of all this movement.
This is interesting
10 chief operating and commercial officer, Jarrod Villani this week said it worked well for 10 to broadcast into regional areas without owning the signals themselves.
âAt this stage, itâs not an asset that we think that we need to own,â he said.
But he also did not rule it out.
âWeâll see what happens,â he said.
Leaves it open I guess.
For the right price.
Meaning peanuts.
It would be difficult to think the Ten regional stations make any profit combined, the Seven stations and regional radio promotional effort must be subsidising the ten tv side. Not sure if SCA provides any such âsalesâ for their joint venture stations.
I do not expect any changes for a long time yet. Despite previous rumours that SCA wanted out of TV they look likely to hold on all the existing TV assets for a long time yet and I also do not think the ARN takeover of SCA will succeed
That first 10 second ident is hilariously bad. Awful soundtrack and clearly the 10 News First promo edited to remove the news portion.
Theyâre both pretty awful - on high rotation unfortunately. Not sure why they donât just run network promos, maybe a timing thing.
Covering up metro sponsor billboards when they havenât sold one they can air themselves in that spot I would guess.
SCA used to do that a lot with the nine.com.au ads when they had the Nine affiliation.
Yeah nah these arenât great⌠I think they could be greatly improved with better music choice, or even a simple âweâre returning to your show now, youâre watching 10â/âcatch the news at 5 followed by the projectâ voiceover.
Odd choice to promote The Cheap Seats and HYBPA when they arenât even on⌠The advertising promo still has 10Shake on it, and weird they donât mention Hit or Triple M but mention Listnr???
No Triple M or Hit in market.
Never mind then
would be interested to see if theyâre included in the promo where they do have a broadcast presence
âKeep money in this communityâ is false advertising. SCA is not locally owned.
