Ten News + (Starts 30 June)

As mentioned above it’s a forum rule - mods prefer to use the full spelling (i.e. Ten, Seven, etc) rather than numerals, to keep things consistent across the board.

It still doesn’t make sense to me.

It’s the Seven Network, Nine Network and Network 10.

Pretty simple stuff. It isn’t Ten. Hasn’t been for years.

If we followed the networks’ naming conventions to the letter (or number!) we’d all be typing out :::9NEWS.

Good to know that it will be repeated in The Project (Repeat)'s slot. Meeting the local content quota. Almost nothing rates after 10pm on most channels these days. Will be interesting to see what it will rate compared to The Project’s repeat.

That’s Ten’s style guide. Not ours. Likewise we don’t use 7News or 9News even though I’m sure they’d like us to. Ten also for years was TEN (and ELEVEN) but we didn’t follow suit.

Good old Annette Blunt…

I’m old enough to remember when Ten Sydney was #1 at 6pm with Eyewitness News in the 80s. Pretty sure Melbourne and Brisbane also rated number one throughout much of it.

Ads are not just inserted. They have to be sold. And they are sold on a cost per thousand viewers rate. I can’t see a 10 streaming channel getting so many thousands of viewers that they could sell ads and make the extra investment make sense

That’s why FAST channels are filled with promos and “be right back” slates. Most of them are sold by platform too.

Yes Ten News was a power house in the 80s. Especially in Melbourne and Sydney. Also, ATV10 took the 1 one spot in Melbourne for a brief time in the mid 90s. There was clearly a much larger appetite for news at 5 then.

Bad ownership and management have lead to the inconstancy of the 10 News brand over the decades.

Unfortunately, it takes a lot of time, resources and consultancy to build a News brand. This is very evident with 9 News Perth.

All this talk of ratings for this new program seems somewhat off kilter. I don’t think 10 are aiming for winning the slot or being that competitive. This is more about cost and how much they are saving by having a fully integrated and owned and operated news hour. If they maintain 300k average they’ll be okay about that.

I don’t think it will ever go anywhere near making an inroad into 7 and 9.

The positives are that it’s Australian content, live into eastern markets, expanding the news division and provides content that can be used on multiple platforms.

Anyone here who thinks this is an idiot. Ten’s current plan is not to win the timeslot. It never will against Seven and Nine.

10s aim is to maintain the current audience while producing something cheaper, local and more profitable in that timeslot. If they can get something that pulls in a constant 300k average across the hour they have already won.

And yet News Corp are cticitising 10 (without even an episode broadcast):

One thing to mention - I think this might do better in regional Australia where The Project was (even) less popular.

True. This could potentially pull better numbers in regional markets.

I’m saddened by the end of the Project but I’m very opened minded to see how this plays out.

It will probably have the same ratings as they had with the local news extension at 6pm and first half of The Project. It might even have a bump at the start and then drop. Ten will probably keep it because it will cost less than The Project.

I daresay that Deal will probably take a small chunk out of ACA and Home and away that both skew older. So it will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

Agree 1000%

By all reports Project was an expensive show. 16 years on licence fee would have been astronomical. 10 News+ will be a fraction of the cost and likely perform just as well. If not a little better perhaps as it won’t skew as young as Project

3 weeks out.

When do we think we’ll see marketing hit? They Shoukd already have promos running in 10 News. Project and Primetime

Let’s hope they start tomorrow. They actually only have 2 full weeks to promote.

They may opt for a soft launch?

This is why I don’t get why they are starting the Monday directly after.
Promote now and it feels like you’re dancing on the grave of The Project, promote any later and it’s too late,
