Is the NSW Central Coast the only local 10 area that doesn’t receive noodle updates?

From my notes, Seven started making noodle updates around 2021/22, combined into the pre-existing Newcastle updates?

There’s the two sub markets in Queensland that Ten don’t need to service, Toowoomba and Mackay, but they did make them under SCA ownership so would expect they still exist, it doesn’t seem like Ten have made changes good or bad to these updates.

The Central Coast on the other hand I think doesn’t get them mostly because it’s not a unique program feed - NRN don’t have the transmitters in the southern parts of the market, and just relay Newcastle in the north.

They get 10HD Newcastle outright. So no dedicated Central Coast noodle updates. No opt-outs, nothing. Any opt-outs are for 10 News Newcastle updates, and Newcastle advertising. Central Coast may only get one bit of a mention during the Newcastle updates, if you’re lucky.

I think IIRC the updates on 7HD Central Coast are the Newcastle ones, with some Central Coast stuff combined. 7HD Central Coast was mainly set up as a space for local businesses in the area to advertise on Channel 7 as opposed to just taking Newcastle outright just like ex-WIN 10, given the Sydney services on the local translators along the Coast are just Sydney.

In short, the regional Channel 7 is just 7HD Newcastle, but the only real difference on the station is the Central Coast advertising.

Shepparton doesn’t get noodle updates on its own, they take Albury’s.

I believe ACMA consider Albury and Shepparton to be one market when is comes to the local news requirements, which probably explains that one.

If that’s the case Shepparton should have got 7News Border weeknights at six instead of 7News Melbourne!

I wonder why they don’t? Especially since Seven in Lismore takes the Coffs Harbour bulletin. Surely Shepparton could also benefit from the same rewards of an Albury bulletin into their region? It would be more local than WIN’s supposed “local” (but is actually statewide and also heavily Albury-Wodonga-centric) offering.

Seven had the chance when SCA had the Nine affilation and its 9News Border North East, but opted not to.

And as a result, viewers in Shepparton don’t get Albury-Wodonga news in the evening noodle updates fed to Shepparton viewers. Instead, seperate updates are made for the Shepparton market with only national stories, something that would be better done by relaying the 7NEWS Melbourne updates instead.

There’s absolutely no local news on 7HD Shepparton whatsoever. The only thing that’s local is the advertising. That would surely have to be a clear breach of the local content quotas by the licensee AMV Shepparton?

Does local business advertising count as local content or not? Because to me, Seven seems to be treating it like Shepparton and the GV meets local content quota requirements by screening local advertising and no local news.

Coffs Harbour and Lismore were the same market pre-aggregation (old NRTV area) so the comparison is irrelevant. If you said Coffs and Taree, then your example had some merit

That package still holds up well.
When will they switch or can they just not be bothered

Dunno, SWM do those updates now. It would be nice though (y’know, brand synergy and what not).

Caspar McLeod has announced on Instagram that he will be the new Chief of Staff for the 10 News Local updates from January.

A HUGE pinch-me moment.
After several months of working at Paramount and after almost two years of (mostly) writing and presenting news for regional Queensland, I am extremely excited to announce that I will be the new Chief of Staff of the Ten local news updates team, taking over from the wonderful Will Boddy. A huge thanks to the people in Hobart, including Gavin McDougall for his guidance and mentorship over the last two years. I start the new role while working in Sydney from January. I am very grateful for the opportunity to lead such a dynamic and exciting team through this bold new chapter, and I can’t wait to get started!

Slowly moving things to Sydney it seems. Hopefully production can move there or one of the other big newsrooms soon so they can increase the quality of the updates.

Think you will find NRN Coffs Harbour did split some advertising into RTN Lismore at some point prior to aggregation.

Interesting indeed. I wonder where Will Boddy will go. Perhaps staying in Hobart if he doesn’t want to relocate interstate with Paramount as sounds a bit like things are shifting to Sydney. Hopefully next year will see better quality/integrated local updates but I won’t hold my breath.

With the Late News at an hour now, will it move onto the main set and leave the greenscreen free for Regional?
Also - doesn’t Sydney have a spare ex-Project studio they could use?
