Ten News (Regional NSW/ACT/Vic/QLD/TAS)

With the 10 News Southern NSW-ACT updates supposedly moving to Sydney, makes me wonder will the 10 News Regional VIC updates move to Melbourne? Or will they remain in Hobart?

Where was this reported?

He’s assumed (yet again) that because Caspar will be doing the CoS role out of Sydney, that’s where they’ll also be doing the updates from.

Doesn’t seem like an unfair set of assumptions (calculated guess?) given both Caspar and Will seem to be currently Hobart based. And presumably Paramount isn’t going to spend anymore money than they have to.

But will be interesting to see if anything more is announced.

My assumption, which I’ll state clearly is an assumption based on it being typical of other media acquisitions, is that Ten would have a certain time period they need to maintain headcount after the acquisition of the SCA assets, so now would be too early timing for any changes to the production process.

I guess the cat is out of the bag (was gonna wait until work was over).

The summer shut down period begins at the end of tomorrow (12 December) and is set to return to regular updates on Monday 12 January.

However, the Hobart studios will no longer be the location where they’re produced. 10 has decided to shut down the operations out of Hobart, and relocate these positions to either Melbourne or Sydney (at the choosing of the journalist). Out of the ten in the Hobart office, four have chosen Melbourne, two have chosen Sydney and four have chosen redundancy. We were alerted to this back in October.

Yes. I’ll let those people come out with their personal reasons why.

Yes. Southern NSW will be out of Sydney, and VIC and QLD will be out of Melbourne.

Shame there have been redundancies, though the decision is understandable to move it to other studios where crews are already there working on bulletins, etc.

Wonder if Seven, either at local or national level, might try to reclaim the studio after losing it several months ago when SCA gave it to 10.

Also while you are here @Toddletoon, will the TDT and 7 NT and Central updates remain in Hobart, or are those also on the move?

Currently they are still here in Hobart. No word on them moving.

I wonder if the WIN NNSW updates will also be brought in house at 10. Presumably they will, economies of scale and all.

For the people that do relocate at least it will give them exposure to and opportunities in a bigger newsroom.

It’s a shame the regional QLD bulletins can’t come from Brisbane.

Is there room in Brisbane? Doesn’t Brisbane have the old circa 2015 space where the news came from before COVID.

Secondly, what sets will they use in Melb/Syd?? Green screen or are 10 taking the set from Hobart?

Thirdly (and most importantly), is the TAS updates moving and will we seen the end of 10 News First on the Apple Isle?

The question I’d ask is would they have the necessary updated facilities in Brisbane? They’ve only had their main bulletin returned to them barely a year ago.

to add in, what, 2 or 3 extra desks? I am sure they could manage.

Staying in Hobart at the moment.

Guessing late news green screen in Sydney (though that could get a little difficult if Adelaide presentation returns there).

Melbourne - there is enough secondary studios. I wonder if the old Melbourne news set is still there.

Probably. Brisbane wasn’t part of the plan. (And no disrespect to anyone that actually lives in Queensland, but I’d rather live in a place where I won’t melt)

I think the set we’ll use in Melbourne is whichever one isn’t the new one (speculation). What I do know is there is more than one that we can use at a time, so no more waiting around.

Melbourne has a full vacant studio. Plus plenty of office space left over from The Project. Makes sense to move full production there.

I hope this legend smashes it wherever he goes next. Wishing Will nothing but the best :slightly_smiling_face:

I’d say 7 or 9 would give him their on-air appearance guide when he starts and the Mo will go.
