You know what, I don’t see it as a problem.
Regional television is supposed to be a training ground for the next pack of metro reporters and presenters. Yes, they will bugger up. They will learn from this.
You will find videos of the today’s big guys and gals back in the day on country stations buggering up. No one bats 100%. But they get better and smooth out their quirks.
I know 7, 9 and 10 refuse to invest in regional television outside of just acquiring the licenses and doing the bare minimum, but they should be encouraged to develop multimedia skilled people outside of the big markets.
Fixed now lol
Oh dear.
This issue raises itself from time to time. I just wish everyone would remember that no one is perfect when they do anything at first.
There have been countless presenters and reporters who could have been written off when they started. They get better as time goes on.
Many get their real world experience on regional TV and go on to become big network stars. Give them a chance.
I’d love to see how some of you would perform if you were new to the business. The level of judgment being thrown around here is completely uncalled for.
Yes, he may not be perfect but he’s trying. Give him a break.
It’s not a shot at him, if anything it’s about a lack of support from up above. Shows management don’t care, just throwing people into the deep end without prepping them for it.
I’m in Bundaberg atm, and my sister who is local was with me today when an update came on. She laughed and said, “oh we get some great ones here on Channel 10.”
I grew up watching regional tv and we had some very ordinary local presenters and tv programs, and I would agree with your comment reflecting on those times.
This young guy deserves a go, yes, but he isn’t up that the standard of what I grew up with back in the 70s ans 80s. 10 needs to help him polish his performance before they put him on air.
But looks like he read the comment about the tie and someone destroyed his world in that shot.
I haven’t seen this guys work, and I suspect he’s doing his best…..But in both those photo’s, he does look like he’s having a bad day…
The problem is that there is nowhere near the opportunities that were available in years gone by. Only a select few have a lifelong career in television these days. Trying not to go too far off course, but look at people like former NBN presenters John Church, Paul Lobb and Jodi McKay. John is now a real estate agent. Paul is a marriage celebrant and Jodi is a politician.
The talent is no longer there and the regional networks take what they can get - and with limited to no practical work experience
He’ll improve with time and call me an odd one out, but I like the ties.
Gives some variation to an otherwise boring update.
And that’s all of their own doing by cutting back on regional bulletins and other related content. The on-the-job training opportunities are not there. And it’s the same in radio with ongoing networking.
no issue with the ties, it’s the knot (or lack thereof) that’s generated discussion.
As a bloke that doesn’t present in a tie well…..This give us hope.
Yes this comment was made in humor.
Lets not be too hard on this fella - everyone has to start somewhere …
No one is being hard on him, the criticism lays with the product and the management.
Everyone has to start somewhere (though after a check of LinkedIn he’s not just starting out) but organisations need to give their staff training and advice, not just lob them in at the deep end, as we’ve seen this outfit do time and time again. 10 really should have just moved this all to Sydney.
What guarantee is that towards addressing these issues?
And our media is Sydney-centric/concentrated enough. There doesn’t need to be any more.
