Hugh Riminton just presented a Ten News First update, he is probably presenting the national bulletin this evening.
Good Friday -
Hugh Riminton is presenting 10 News First tonight.
Is this Hugh’s first time presenting on the new set?
I think it could be the first time for Hugh.
Amanda Jason presenting weather tonight… her microphone didn’t work during first weather preview, Hugh said we will have a new mic up next time as well
With Matt Burke presenting sport on tonight’s bulletin.
Why? Everything is shut.
Good Friday and Christmas Day are the two days when nothing happens.
Like so many other things it just reflects quite badly on the network IMO, especially when WIN and other regional networks (who you’d think would have a considerably lower budget & less resources than 10 News First does in five metro markets) will still be airing their local news bulletins as usual tonight.
There will be absolutely no sympathy from me if we find out on Tuesday that Seven & Nine’s local bulletins got way more (albeit less than a regular Friday) viewers than tonight’s national edtion of 10 News First.
.
Arent the ABC also going national tonight too?
Yes and I complained about them accordingly in a more relevant thread.
Can I ask which news service will you be watching tonight?
It’s good Friday. I’m not watching the news.
I was asking SydneyCityTV because he usually watches Nine News Sydney which is local tonight so was curious why he cares so much about ABC & 10 doing national bulletins when he isn’t even watching them.
Maybe in Brisbane
And Perth and Hobart and Adelaide.
And presumably Melbourne and Sydney too.
If the report I saw on Nine News last night was anything to go by, there were a decent amount of entertainment options available in Sydney today even though most shops were closed.
I’m not sure about Sydney, but here in Melbourne I went out for breakfast this morning, shopped at my local Coles, went to an AFL game this afternoon and I’m now heading out to the Melbourne Comedy Festival.
What I’m trying to say is, Good Friday is not what it use to be 20 years ago. Ten should be providing a local bulletin on this day in years to come.
I agree with you, Syd. Sydneysiders need and deserve the obligatory reports on Sydney Fish Market stampede with associated Pyrmont traffic snarls, holiday traffic heading north and south to tourist areas, comment from local religious leaders, vox pops with parishioners who attended the service at St Mary’s Cathedral about the meaning of Good Friday, and Royal Easter Show fluff piece. All meaningful traditions to Sydneysiders that interstate viewers don’t give a toss about.
People want to know what is happening in their own community on such a day, not some far flung city. They’ve had the day off and are likely unwinding in front of the television. Ten and the ABC should be using the opportunity to connect with their city’s news audience.
I’m usually pretty good at this but I just can’t tell if this is sarcasm
