We finally have a host and a launch date!

With the budget cuts mate to The Latest and recent news tarnishing of the 7News brand in the short term, now is the time for 10 to relaunch strong into the late news arena.

10:30 start is unrealistic on broadcast. They’re nearly always in the middle of a show at that time.

If their tent pole reality finishes at 9pm then they air their stock cbs procedural they should really just air this at 10 rather than a repeat of another cbs procedural. Things a little different on the nights they air paying attention and cheap seats.

Good to see it having a date and host.

With it starting in less than two weeks time, will we see any promotion for it?

And its to be called “10’s Late News” and not 10@10News or whatever nonsense it was to be called?

“10’s Late News” might just be colloquial speak, I don’t think we’ll know the exact title until it airs. Even then there might still be a difference between the official name and the one used in speech.

Think the differences between 9News Gold Coast / “Nine Gold Coast News” or Nightly News 7 Tasmania / “7 Tasmania News”.

Edit: I stand corrected

Wonder if they will actually start promoting it, or if they will just drop a 5 second promo the Friday before it starts.

Breaking News. Ursula Heger To Present 10’s Late News.

Begins Monday, 29 April At 10.00pm AEST On 10 Play And 10.30pm On 10.

From Monday, 29 April, Network 10 will launch 10’s Late News, a return of 10’s iconic late night news bulletin, helmed by 10 News First Senior Journalist Ursula Heger.

The brand-new national news bulletin will stream weeknights live on demand at 10.00pm AEST on 10 Play and 10 News First’s YouTube channel, and airs at 10.30pm on 10.

The digital-first news bulletin will provide comprehensive and contemporary coverage of all the biggest stories of the day, updating viewers on everything they need to know about their world at the end of the day, and is available to watch on the device of their choosing.

Since joining the network in 2011, Ursula has reported on a number of major stories for the network including covering the war in Ukraine, the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, the Easter terror attack in Sri Lanka, the COVID pandemic, Black Summer bushfires, Royal visits to the Pacific, and Prime Ministerial visits to China, South Korea, Japan and the U.S.

Martin White, VP Broadcast News said, “10 is synonymous with Late News, and this new bulletin is a key part of our strategy of taking our news into the streaming future. Ursula is a highly respected, top-class journo who’ll do a great job of continuing 10’s proud legacy of late-night news.”

Rashell Habib, Head of Digital News & Strategy said, “The late news will play a major part in catering to the ever-growing audiences consuming 10 News First at all times of the day and night and on multiple platforms, whether in bed, on the couch or on a late shift. The late news will cater to everyone, wherever they are.”

Ursula said, “I’m thrilled to have been chosen to bring you the late news as our presenter. Ten’s Late News with Sandra Sully was an important part of many people’s evening ritual for so many years. She and the team brought you the news that mattered to you: from live coverage of September 11 to the financial crisis that impacted everyone’s lives.

“I’m thoroughly looking forward to taking up the baton of 10’s new late news bulletin, as we bring you the latest breaking news, stories that matter, with analysis to help us all deal with an ever-changing world of new technology and shifting social norms. I will work to ensure 10’s Late News is important viewing to all of you. Giving you the facts, so you can make decisions for your lives.”

Digital first? Not really nailing the concept, just recording a bulletin for later on broadcast.

Imagine if a network tried live local news at 9:30. That’d own the space for years and they’d do so well.

Glad they’ve revived the 10 Late News brand for this.

Now we just need them to rebrand to 10 Midday News, 10 Afternoon News and 10 News :crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers:

Surprised it wasn’t 10 News First: Late so there was consistency but glad that Late News on 10 is back!

That release is from 10. In the actual guide its referenced as 10 News First: Late.

Would’ve preferred this.

But I guess they could be appealing somewhat to the older audience who will remember “10 Late News”

Glad we finally have a launch date.
Well done on the correct tip @Tvjunkie

Credit where credit’s due, I was pretty adamant they had quietly axed it lol

I wonder if weeknights includes Friday. If so, they’d be the only commercial late night bulletin on Fridays.

This. National news is dime a dozen. You can flick on the ABC news channel if you want that on TV or every online news site, including ones that used to have a wealth of local news like the Age and SMH is now full of national news filler. Same for the ABC News website.

People are crying out for smart state/local news and not just Seven and Nine’s daily crime and car crash recap.

Yes it does

Does anyone else find the ‘live online and then re-broadcast’ part weird? Like we know the news on Ten is already out of date by the time it airs?
