Ten News First Content and Appearance

And you think the audience of the past are still there to watch it loyally every night?

They’ve long moved on. Sports Tonight failed already and this iteration of Late News isn’t even guaranteed to rate well.

How about just “10 News”. Why is everything so complicated, and why do they think an umpteenth reboot of a national late news against 7 and 9 is going to work? Christ.

The name is definitely starting to grow on me.

I’m excited to see what the set looks like. I’m really hopeful that they will make this a more separate brand and not just use that bright white/blue globe used in the national (and SYD/QLD) bulletins.

I think they should go with a purple colour scheme with dim lighting across the set for this bulletin.

Given Midday has specific backdrops, titlecards, tweaks to the supers (a carryover from Breakfast) then I can imagine they’ll do something similar for the late news.

If the logo we’ve already seen is any indication too, they’ll likely return to having a similar look with the sort of blurred nightscape background.

The Sydney set (if they’re going the national route from Pyrmont) really lends itself to a moody late bulletin too.

Not sure if I’ve missed it, but do we know which city the late news is being broadcast from yet?

No details have been released yet about the format (other than being live on 10play), presenter or city.

Sydney news tonight was a bit all over the place tonight - seemed to be a few technical gremlins and I think they tweaked the run down last minute to accommodate breaking news resulting in only three stories in the first sport segment.

I noticed tonight that they have replaced the headline recap and second traffic update with a Maccas sponsorboard that now just runs the headlines across the bottom. Similar to what’s seen on the other commercials.

Oh, have they - I don’t like that at all, particularly for viewers just tuning in at 5:30. The sponsored headlines don’t seem to air at all on Southern Cross or catch up streaming so it’s just a hard transition back to Sandra reading the next story.

They also seem to have reintroduced a shared pre-recorded segment with Brisbane this week, even with daylight saving kicking in. Must be the way of the future…

As if this new and failed incarnation of Ten late news is any better.:joy:

I would be surprised if it isn’t Sydney. There is a chance of Perth, i suppose, but isn’t that bulletin controlled remotely from Sydney but just read from Perth, anyway?

With Ten’s Late News happening in 2024, there will be five Late News bulletins across the board (ABC, Seven, Nine. 10 and SBS). When was the last time thst happend?

We all know that Seven and Nine copy each other everywhere (early morning news at 5am, brekky show at 5.30am, morning news at 11.30am, afternoon news at 4pm, games shows at 5pm, news at 6pm, late news (The Larest and Nine News) etc. Who would have thought that 10 would re-enter the larlte news landscape?

I’m only surprised considering that 10 make a point of saying they look for programming gaps to be / offer alternatives for viewers and knowing this will go up against the others at 10:30 just doesn’t really make sense to me.

While I wish it was on really no later than say 9:30 or 10pm at the latest, I also know that it likely won’t attract a bigger audience than what’s currently airing in that slot for the network, and wouldn’t be as competitive or the best lead-in for the multiple US procedurals for late night shares etc.

Also crazy to think that a few short years ago, the only late night bulletins available were on the ABC & SBS. Wild

How long have they had The New Daily doing a segment towards the end of Midday on a Friday for a recap of all the biggest online stories from the week?

TND reporter Ash Cant was on the desk with Ursula today, she was a bit green and referred to her notes a few times, but overall not bad.

Good use of partnership since they already supply video content to them for their website.

Interesting closer on Midday earlier this week:

Today opened without a VO.

It would have been a good 20 years ago as that’s when 7 first axed their late news, not to be reincarnated until The Latest came onto the scene in 2018/2019

Mention of Sunday’s bulletin finishing at the earlier 6pm timeslot ahead of Matildas V Philippine’s (Sydney/Melbourne).

Did they not start until October? I thought it was from September in '92? Or did the news just begin later?
