Having the network do updates longer and have local presenters start later and finish at 10.30 seems reasonable to me. Live at 5.00 and 9.30 would be ideal.
Then it will be axed after 6 months in the next/annual round of spending cuts because they did the bare minimum and then act surprised when nobody watched.
Marketing people at 10 get paid big bucks for this? 10 at 10? Really? Just call it â10 News First: Lateâ in the guides for consistency (10 News First: Midday and 10 News First (5pm)) . And everyone at home will call it âthe late newsâ anywayâŚ
10 at 10 sounds like a clip show.
Even 10 News Last would be better. Goodness.
â10 News: Live at 5â
â10 News: Live at 9â
Tagline:
10 News Live at 5 & 9
I actually donât hate 10 at 10.
except for the whole airing at 10.30
Agree
I suspect that the on-line bulletin will be call 10 at 10 on 10Play but the broadcast will be labelled Late News.
But what does â10 at 10â even mean?? Top 10 stories? Should be 10 News at 10
Do we expect them to be separate broadcasts? Or just a replay of the 10 Play Bulletin.
They said it was the online bulletin didnât they?
10:
Generally the big announcements are saved for exciting projects like Nine News Tasmania
Yeah itâs a stupid name.
I would go with
10 News at 10 (if it was on at 10pm)
10 News First Late
Or
10 Late News
I wouldâve done the same. If 10 News First Breakfast and 10 News First Midday are established names then I donât see why late tacked on wouldnât. More uniform and standardised.
Or 10 News First at 10 could be another option.
My thoughtsâŚ.
10 News First: Breakfast
10 News First: Mornings
10 News First: Midday
10 News First: Melbourne (etc)
10 News First: Late Edition
Everyone on here is always saying 10 needs to do something different to Nine and Seven.
(Now we donât know what format the bulletin will be) but they give us a fresh, unique name and everyoneâs saying to go to the basic 10 News Late or similar.
Graphics wise, brand it as this for consistency sake, the reality, most probably, is that it will still be referred to as the late news. âStay with us, the late news is nextâ.
No different to âcoming up on Melbourneâs/Adelaideâs 10 News Firstâ.
Hereâs my take on thingsâŚ
Firstly, I think itâs great that 10 are reviving the Late News. We had all yearned for the return of former bulletins in their respective timeslots for years, and we have thankfully seen that come to fruition in recent months.
While 10 News First: Breakfast was short lived, 10 News First: Midday has been a welcome addition to the schedule, as has the gradual return of Perth and Adelaideâs local bulletins.
â10 at 10: The Late Newsâ as a name does sound somewhat confusing (as is the title-card saying 10 Late News instead, though it is different than the status quo, which can be a benefit.
Some may recall 10 creating a distinctive youthful âbrand voiceâ to revive their âwild child imageâ, coinciding with the Network-wide relaunch in October 2018, but its use had lessened in more recent years since the change of management, post-ViacomCBS merger in 2020. This unique name appears to follow those principles from five years ago.
Despite the unusual approach, I feel the title on its own has potential within the bulletin itself as an introductionâŚâThis is 10 at 10âŚââŚorâŚâTonight on 10 at 10âŚââŚandâŚâLeading 10 at 10â. They could be creative with the naming conventions.
The last incarnation of the Late News was also quite creative with the format, having the blend of News and Entertainment, plus the relaxed nightly vibe. Hereâs hoping they do take some inspiration from the past, while also injecting new ideas.
What concerns me however is the strategy of having the bulletin published to 10 Play first at 10:00pm, and then later airing at 10:30pm. Having it pre-recorded is unfortunate.
What if there happens to be large developing or National event during the evening, similar to that of the Queenâs ill heath and eventual passing? Would they consider extending coverage if necessary?
The 10:30pm timeslot is odd and risky. Is it for the nostalgia factor?
I hope 10 stick fat with this third reincarnation of the Late News. After the numerous butcherings of the news service, launch and closure of 10 Daily, and the ill-fated Sports Tonight revival, itâs hard to trust they will.
Hoping to be proved wrong!
You know what I think they should do is have 10 Late News with Sports Tonight. How it was done in the past.
