10 did the briefest of updates to convey the interest rate announcement - right in the middle of Shark Tank.

Slight error in the opening of Midday today with Narelda’s voiceover and the camera refused to move off the long shot.

… and a nice longshot closer too!

It’s really unnecessary, isn’t it? It can easily wait until the news break.

Fire alarm going off during the Perth News tonight! :fire::rotating_light:

Natalie Forrest cut to a break without reading the upcoming stories, asking viewers to “stick around, while we try fix the alarm.”

Oh, Hugh is on instead? They’ve cut away from the Perth News entirely, at least for the moment.

The ad break was also very long.

Could have done a Brian Williams and kept going!

Edit: All back to normal now!

P.S. Hello, The Cheap Seats cameo

There is a version on 10play (fire alarm but no reference to switching to Sydney news, assuming that’s what happened?). Nat seems to have handled things like an absolute professional - didn’t flinch and just kept on going.

Ratings are severely down this year and it’s clear that 10 knows it needs to be addressed - as we’re seeing next year with the afternoon lineup changes and possible cut to the 6pm half hour.

Doesn’t help that the bulletin has been chopped so much over the years. I don’t think they will scale back the local bulletins any further for the time being though, instead they’ll find cost efficiencies in other areas such as the removal of Satellite vans.

Sorry for repeating it again but some additional national bulletins will help provide benefit to the brand. They’ve been building such a strong 8.30pm lineup that having a short bulletin afterward would work well. Present it from Perth with Natalie Forrest.

Midday is definitely a value add - it’s a great bulletin.

Only just ahead of SBS World News - I suppose years of chronic underinvestment, cuts and alienating viewers by cancelling bulletins and then bringing them back will do that to a brand.

Fantastic, really happy to hear this.
As I mentioned, have it run right after the 8.40PM shows and they’ll have a winner on their hands.

Will be interesting to see how they implement this and whether they use Perth to host it (although Sydney will still technically need to be involved for bulletin control).

That would be its best chance to be competitive if it airs around 9:40pm away from the inconsistently scheduled services from Seven and Nine and to a lesser degree ABC.

Would definitely be the key advantage over Seven and Nine. They’ll need to be very smart about scheduling this.

Sounds like more money is again being invested into news.

Not a bad pending line up when announced for 2024.
