Ten News First Content and Appearance

Agreed. But the time to invest in late news was after Seven launched The Latest. Now that Nine’s doing late news as well it’ll be a big challenge to break into.

Considering Seven’s & Nine’s late bulletins run at a hodgepodge array of times, there’s a window of opportunity for 10 to launch a program with a USP of consistently starting at the same time.

Yes I agree with this… 10pm start everyday without fail. Could be the flagship national bulletin.

Doesn’t The Project encore rate reasonable well for the network during this time?

They could surely do a 10pm bulletin and then then a 10:30 or even 11pm encore

If they’re going for a youthful bulletin, it’s the wrong time. What youth is home at midday?

I suppose it all comes down to what will make the network a profit in that time slot. It’s currently cheaper to run a US drama/comedy or a repeat in that time-slot.

Investing in a small amount of resources (news staff) to broadcast a late night bulletin doesn’t make Paramount money. But it does strengthen the 10 news brand and it’s reputation across the board.

Unfortunately, 10s current business model is short term, but I hope one day this changes.

The other networks only make one reporter from each state stay back late. It’s a similar model to what 10 use on weekends.

It’ll be less than Dr Phil but obviously higher than the 8am bulletin. Narelda will likely have a similar 5CM audience at noon to what she had at 5pm in Perth alone.

Noticed 10 had a 2 minute plus infomercial for a mop in a 5pm news ad break. The type you’d usually see at 2am. Wow, they must really be struggling.

News has much much wider appeal and ratings potential than B and C grade US fare.

The ones still in bed?

Ten news midday rating a lot higher than Ten news Breakfast which must be some relief….

Source?

Daily Mail have an article about Ten which includes the figures…

I think that was always going to be the case. But has it improved on its predecessor (Doctor Phil) in that time slot?

Would be interesting to see how this figure compares to Nine/Seven morning bulletins, Dr Phil, and Studio 10’s new timeslot (and if viewers stay around).

It really does seem like Ten will be in survival mode sooner rather than later. Why should viewers watch programs on Ten when there are arguably stronger alternatives on Seven and Nine? When The Project relaunched they should’ve got more big names that you’d turn on for - Sarah alone is not enough. And with Ten running combined news for various states, why would you watch that when you can watch an entirely local bulletin on Seven and Nine? As for sport, Seven and Nine are the home of all major sports such as AFL, NRL, Cricket, Tennis etc. Without leading the way in news and sport, it’s hard to see how Ten can survive, let alone thrive, especially given the declining FTA market.

That article is hysterical, practically saying the owners could pull the plug and the network would go dark. Such hyperbole.

It may seem like that now, but the future doesn’t look good for 10. There will be more changes and cuts coming.

Only 10,000 viewers for the second midday news. WOW! And only 1,000 viewers in Perth. You can’t call it first, when Seven and Nine have news at 11.30am same morning.

It is odd how lower it was on the 2nd day - would be interesting to know how Studio 10 is performing too.
