Ten used to be great at getting the “live eye” out to western Sydney when something news worthy was happening. They can’t be arsed sending a news crew out to Penrith to cover a story these days. They just ignore news in the outer suburbs unless they have vision supplied by Police or from social media.
I can’t see them ever having even a VJ based in a big regional centre like Newcastle or Ballarat to cover news. If they ever went national they’d stick to politics, city crime/courts, health and human interest stories that resonate and travel across borders. If they don’t have the resources or budget to cover a city the size of Brisbane, they’re hardly going to give a toss about what’s happening in regional areas even if they did pick up the licenses from Southern Cross.
Yeah, not expecting them to invest more money but they could get creative with what they currently have or might have, particularly with local content requirements regionally.
They would presumedly go down the Sky News model of national news. Handful of reporters and VJs in the major state capitals, a team at Parliament House Canberra and a team of Producers based in Sydney taking care of content for the entire country. Presenters would be based in Sydney but occasionally the Melbourne one could be switched on.
Sky survives on vision handouts from Seven and Nine so it’ll be difficult to see if Ten would have access to this too.
Or Sky News starts producing Ten’s bulletins which was the dream from Murdoch and Gordon years ago.
Unlikely Paramount are gonna buy SCA regional affiliates. Paramount is focused on streaming - they are not buying small affiliates anywhere in the world.
