Yep… agree. And we still have a Studio 10?
Wouldn’t be surprised if they outsourced to Sky New Weather Channel. Testing the waters to see how the relationship works before diving in and outsourcing the whole news operation to ANC. If there’s money to be made for News Corp. and significant savings to be had for ViacomCBS, I don’t believe the events of the past would be a hindrance to a relationship.
About the only other sort of cut they could have made would be to cut how much they report on certain topics - like having less dedicated sports coverage, or removing a full Canberra presence or something?
It will really depend what the execution is like as to how much viewers feel this change. Like if they could work out pre-records such that the 5:30 segment in the Melbourne news is pre-recorded so Adelaide can get a live opener and first break, you’d probably not feel like you’ve lost out as much as if it was mostly Melbourne news on a delay.
There is literally nothing else left to cut. Studio 10 is saved by the advertorials - but clearly a massive rejig is in order to slash cost. News just isn’t primetime and that’s the cold hard fact.
But as for saying Bris, Adelaide and Perth are shut down… that’s just not true. From what I understand, the same number of journos will be working…
But it is?
It not only their main lead in, but it now runs into primetime.
Na primetime is 7:30pm + I reckon .
Wouldn’t happen mate
They aren’t closing down mate, just studio presentation is moving.
The top 4 programs most nights are Nine News and Seven News at 6:00pm and 6:30pm. That’s definitely primetime, I think.
Yep what would they prefer a local news service presented from a central location or rip and reads with a local presenter, the choice is pretty simple, unfortunately many don’t understand money doesn’t grow on trees.
By the same token, on Sundays, Insiders is primetime.
According to OzTAM primetime is 6:00pm to Midnight. That was my point, but I thought everyone knew that.
Most stations I’ve worked at offer prime time ads between 5:30pm to 9:30pm.
Ten Should’ve Entered a News Sharing service with AAP.
Not wanting to defend an awful, but (potentially) financially prudent decision … but 10’s news has lost its one key selling point: being the first primetime-ish bulletin to air every night.
Once the Seven and Nine began kicking virtually all non-news or advertorial content in the afternoons, the writing was on the wall for 10. Either step up and join in the fray (and take a big financial risk) or slowly wither.
Add to that ABC News 24, and there are so many news options at some many times of the day (just on TV too) that 10’s 5pm slot seems like a hindrance.
When they tried to re-establish themselves at 6pm with current affairs and news (and then vice versa) they got hammered.
It’s a shame that 10 cancelled its Late Edition – for a while it was the only commercial station to offer a regularly schedule late news (I think).
I really think they’d be better off with Local news at 9 or 9.30 at a strict starting time every night instead of late afternoons. I know I’ve said it countless times but the 5pm ratings are getting so low these days and it could really boost their prime time share. It seems like a waste of resources where it is.
9 or 9.30 ratings are worse than 5 or 5.30. With bloated reality shows on every night it seems impossible that they will ever have other programs start right on 9 or 9.30.
Only cause nothing is programmed there
Sandra needs to be seen in ALL cities, not just Sydney/Brisbane/Perth!! I’ve thought for years that she was wasted doing what she’s currently doing-you think Ten could have used this as a golden opportunity to ‘reprise’ her profile.
