The boat? Well I disagree. Business should be run by CEOs and business folks. Not creatives. Even tv networks.
Some food for thought.
I reckon Ten should chase Seven News meteorologist David Brown to present the national weather, but should this happen it would be a savage blow for Seven News Sydney which is continuing to struggle against Nine in the 6pm timeslot.
Brown has gained national exposure this century reading the weather first on Sevenâs afternoon news (when it was fronted by David Johnston), then on Sunrise and now the morning news (and subsequently the Sydney afternoon and 6pm bulletins).
Also worth noting he also started his career at Ten News Melbourne before moving to Seven in the mid-1990s.
Thoughts?
It would be a very bad look for them to employ anyone new right now. 10 have more then enough capable presenters to present the weather report.
Wow. Just retrench five of your Weather Presenters who could easily do the job of National Weather Presenter and then go hire someone else from another network. Well sure go ahead if Ten wants to see even more credibility plummet.
The point of redundancies is to reduce staff.
Sure, but they mention that a meteorologist will be presenting all weather for the network and will be announced soon or something along those lines.
As itâs a fairly small talent pool or on-air meteorologists out there so thereâs no harm in speculating who it may be considering these changes are less than a month away.
Thought some of you might be interested in this - David Robinsonâs thoughts on the cuts at 10 - of course he was the roving reporter at Studio 10 for a long time:
Possibly unpopular opinion: perhaps they should change their news bulletins to just â10 Newsâ since it sounds like the bulletins will have nothing going for them anymore, much like Eyewitness News became (again, all because of cutbacks)
As much as I like 10 News First, any hopes of the news division expanding have seemingly disappeared (even though it seemed like there was a slow upward progression up until last weekâs news).
1: The very last thing Seven News Sydney needs right now is to lose David Brown.
2: With the experienced weather presenters theyâre culling (including at least one meteorologist in Josh Holt, if Iâm not mistaken), 10 News First is unlikely to poach talent from other networks in the foreseeable future.
Did the â10 News Firstâ brand ever really have anything going for it? As far as the most obvious reasons to brand the bulletin as âFirstâ are concernedâŚ
First in the ratings? No, theyâre languishing in fourth.
First news/TV station on-air in any of the five main metropolitan markets? No.
First network bulletin on-air for the day? Seven & Nine have theirs at 5am on weekdays!
First as in being the highest quality bulletin? Try telling that to the ABC & SBS, even Seven & Nine (or at least individual local stations) would argue theyâve got the best TV newsrooms in the country.
Yep- seems 10 donât put the news first.
They never have.
Nor is the news first, when its going to be on a delay in many markets.
It is first in a way - first in the fact that its main bulletin that airs before the competitors.
Though looking realistically - theyâre not âfirstâ at all.
They should move back to the late news timeslot, rebrand it as Ten News Last.
Or Maybe ViacomCBS shall join a Partnership with News Corp Australia for News and Sports.
More meaningless speculation that wonât happen in the foreseeable future.
Who says?
Ever.
the last thing we need is more news corp presence
Iâm of the view they still cut the wrong area. Maintaining the five live and local bulletins shouldâve been a bare minimum and they couldâve found other areas to cut. It really is a travesty. At least it isnât outsourced news but still itâs just horrific to see them close down Perth Brisbane and Adelaide.
