Ten News Centralisation 2020

I’m sure they will eventually just do national bulletins.

You would’nt see Sandra tell Rugby League or Union Stories in Melbourne & Adelaide (Unless you’re a Storm Fan) as they’re AFL Heartland all the way.

I suppose not…but, in my opinion, if we Melburnians can put up with hearing about that sort of stuff at the weekends on 10(and Sydney/Brisbane can deal with hearing about AFL), I’m sure we would adapt to the same model 5 nights a week. Plus Sandra would probably boost the ratings as I do know she has quite a few fans down here…me included

Similarly there are AFL and NRL stories on Today, Sunrise and the other national bulletins on commercial television, ABC and SBS. I haven’t read mass complaints about NRL stories sometimes leading sport on Sunrise in Adelaide.

If they ever did that they could just record sports segment for AFL states and one for NRL states

Still wouldn’t be ideal though, because people (particularly in South East Queensland, Adelaide & Perth where there’s only about two local teams) are fiercely parochial about AFL/NRL teams with there being strong local support bases and deep interstate rivalries.

Football fanbases are a bit more fragmented in Sydney & Melbourne with there being multiple clubs based around these 5 million+ metropolitan areas, but a “local first” approach is still preferable on the whole.

How many times do we have to say the final local bulletins go to air on the 11th of September?!

There is one annoying aspect to those on Today/Sunrise however national bulletins they’ll just start leading the sports story with "Gold Coast captain will be out with a two week injury " and then you have to stop and work out are they referring to NRL or AFL.

A quick leading “in rugby league, or AFL” wouldn’t go astray, news is meant to be information, not guesswork / confusion

I’m not targeting any particular network doing it, I’ve seen all three commercials do it on nationally read segments.

Going OT, I think most of the time stories are written in Sydney with no local insight or knowledge. For example, a Sports Journalist on the Gold Coast is aware there is both an NRL and an AFL Team but someone in League aligned Sydney may forget there’s something called the Gold Coast Suns.

Also geography and pronunciations are also an issue on national bulletins. I regularly hear the Queensland town of ‘Goondiwindi’ said wrong, even on Queensland bulletins. Don’t get me started on ‘Mungindi’.

Usually the journalist writes the whole story - including the intro.

Yes but the Producer who’s subbing the work may be elsewhere and changes the intro.

Perhaps the sport reports will be pre recorded

Hopefully on Friday, we’ll see some form of tribute to local 10 News First production - especially in the three smaller capitals!

Didn’t think we’d have to say it again, but this is certainly the saddest week that I can recall for the 10 News team.

Worse than the 2012 and 2014 cuts by far.

Most definitely.

Also, I find it odd how we are a week away and are yet to know what will be happening from Monday.
ie: National weather presenter, Perth’s presenter situation, etc
