Ten Network - Programs and Schedules

I’m really surprised that Australia hasn’t really jumped on the “reboot” band wagon yet.

Hey Hey, Young Doctors, Cop Shop would all make terrific concepts for a reboot. You’re half way there with promotion because of the legacy public awareness. Make it fresh and now and you’ve got a built in audience ready to go.

We’ve had All Saints and City Homicide which were updated versions of the medical and police dramas.

Hey Hey was revived on Nine a few years ago and failed. The one off reunion specials did very well but regular weekly variety in that specific format did not fire.

First Look At Hit New US Drama Instinct.

Starring Alan Cumming and Bojana Novakovic.

Coming Soon. Only On TEN And WIN Network.

The hit new US drama series Instinct starring Tony Award-winning actor Alan Cumming (The Good Wife) as former CIA operative Doctor Dylan Reinhart is coming soon to TEN and WIN Network.

Doctor Dylan Reinhart is a gifted author and university professor living a quiet life teaching abnormal behaviour to packed classes of adoring students.

When tenacious New York Police Department homicide detective Lizzie Needham (Bojana Novakovic) appeals to him to help catch a murderer using his first book as a tutorial, Dylan is compelled to come out of retirement.

Re-energised while tapping into his old skill set, Dylan’s husband Andy (Daniel Ings) becomes concerned that he is breaking their pact about putting away the cloak-and-dagger lifestyle for good.

Although Dylan and Lizzie initially clash, when it comes to catching killers, an ideal partnership may be on the cards if they both trust their instincts.

Written by Michael Rauch and adapted from James Patterson and Howard Roughan’s 2017 book Murder Games, Instinct also stars Naveen Andrews (Lost, The English Patient) as Julian Cousins and Sharon Leal (Dreamgirls, Supergirl) as Lt. Jasmine Gooden.

Another Aussie in a US series.

They are stretching the truth calling this a hit series. It is averaging a 0.89 in the 18-49 demo and 8.2 million viewers for the season and the latest episode got a 0.6 in the demo. Its practically guaranteed to be cancelled.

I agree. It is a lie. And on the verge of being axed.

I guess they are trying to fool people into checking the series out. Most people are too lazy to do their own research into the show.

Do you think they should promote it as the show that is doing badly and likely to be cancelled?

No but they shouldn’t promote it as a hit series either when it’s not.

They shouldn’t bother airing it. Where’s Russell Coight?

We were on the bandwagon years ago

Young Talent Time
Hey Hey It’s Saturday
Prisoner a.k.a. Wentworth
It’s A Knockout
Spicks And Specks
Big Brother

Problem is that, apart from Wentworth, reboots have never really worked here.

The Young Doctors and Return To Eden were both proposed for reboots in recent years (The Young Doctors reboot was reportedly being considered by both Nine and Ten) but neither got past the initial stage.

I guess I’m referring specifically to drama, not entertainment formats. You can count dozens of quiz shows that have been “rebooted”. But apart from Wentworth (which is successful in most part because of our cultural familiarity with the legacy characters) I’m still surprised we haven’t dug up some old drama classics for a reimagining.

Against The Wind, for example, would make a terrific Netflix series.

Aside from game shows, probably the only revived program that has had success on Australian free to air TV in recent years is The Block.

If you can even count this as a program “revival” there were some Burke’s Backyard seasonal specials on Nine in the late 2000s, although that show definitely won’t be revived in any form ever again for now obvious reasons!

…and yet there are people who still want Ten to revive that show!

Some things should be left alone. I don’t really see the point of a reboot of The Young Doctors. A new hospital drama would do better than a remake using old characters.

If they redid Return To Eden, it should just be the original mini-series and not the regular series that followed which was weaker. I think a reboot of Sons and Daughters could work too but again as a mini-series or short series covering the original main storyline.

Because Ten would do it a 1000 times better than Nine. Big Brother ended up failing on Nine not because of the show itself but how Nine treated it.
