Oops! We cannot let Ten’s shutdown in Mildura become lost media! I’ll be staying up-to-date on this! Thanks!

Why can’t SCA buy MDT and have all the main channels including Nickelodeon?

Because SCA wants to get out of the TV market.

Why do they want to? They provide Seven, Nine and Ten to every state.

yeah, and they don’t want the cost/responsibility of having to do it, they just wanna do radio and podcasts.

Have a scroll back as it’s been discussed here a number of times why they can’t or won’t.

The biggest issue now is there is little to no money in the regional television market. With television equalisation across the entire country, all regions until recently had access to all primary metropolitan channels (with some regional variations in some markets).

Now with all the streaming services and all the extra channels, the advertising revenue has not adequately supported these channels leading to little or no profit, with the most recent dividend for SCA being $0.01 per share and the former Prime Media Group in the last few years of existence didn’t declare dividends.

Ultimately, it would be a loss making enterprise. Moving forward the only way I can see Ten returning to the Mildura region is if Ten were to take it on, which simply won’t happen for the same reason - it will be a loss making activity

As stated SCA want to get out of TV then you have a potential takeover by ARN so Southern Cross could be a distant memory.

Why was MDT specifically running at a loss but not Seven or WIN.

Nobody’s watching 10 in large markets, let alone tiny ones.

Has 10 always had fewer people watch over AUS?

generally, it’s always been the third channel.

They don’t though. The only place where they provide all three is the Spencer Gulf region of South Australia.

They don’t provide anything to Western Australia or Northern NSW, or Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane or Adelaide.

The rest is mostly just Ten, with Seven also being provided by them to Tasmania, Darwin, and entirely unprofitable remote areas.

I thought MDT is no more. I’m surprised it’s still being mentioned. Anyway it’s not coming back and any future ten network station coming back to Mildura will most likely be owned by ten. WIN and 7 will not have anything to do with it nor SCA.

Any company or owner could apply for a licence to start a TV station in the market, however, unless it’s 10 (and even that is highly unlikely), I doubt there will be anyone wanting to take on the financial loss.

Would there be a replacement service to MDT?

It’s called 10 Play .

Regardless, it’s highly unlikely that someone will run a replacement service as there is no ROI.

Only options are 10 Play or paying for a VAST box to receive 10 Central.

VAST is kind of a scam unless you are in the dead outback.
