This is the big driver as to why we have such a convoluted VAST arrangement, protectionism.

Not really - Local Government isn’t a dumping ground for services that other levels of government don’t want involvement in, nor is it the failsafe for the commercial sector when they fail.

Council funding of translator sites is a failure of the market and the regulator to adequately provide the service - they get very little (if any) funding for it and cop all the blame when something inevitably goes wrong with the service.

Also they would have to pay for access to 10’s content, and then pay for someone to handle playout, sales, etc.

Councils usually relay an existing service, not run an actual station.

But they would need a 10 service than isn’t on VAST to relay in the first place.

Then they’d have to get permission to relay CDT or a nearby station. It’s unprecedented times but no council is going to own and operate a 10 affiliate.

Many years ago I did see a Christmas advert which said “Merry Christmas From Everyone At 10 Mildura”.

Did 10 Mildura do anything else local in its first couple of years? It was a big thing when 10 launched in Mildura and it was a big push for digital

Maybe some community announcement through local adverts, but it’s only been on air for less than 20 years.

Very dumb question and apologies if already answered but when we say the shutdown is “midnight 30 June”…is that in a few hours or is that at the end of tomorrow (30 June) and MDV is still on-air tomorrow?

it’s a badly worded announcement. Technically “midnight 30 June” is tonight, but I think they might be referring to tomorrow night. But I have no definitive advice either way.

Given that the contract for the current content deal started on July 1 2021, I presume that it will cease at 11:59:59pm on June 30.

Perhaps our Mildura member @Casper might be able to tell us what the EPG says for tonight and tomorrow?

TV Tonight’s article with local reactions has this line:

After Sunday, Mildura Digital TV is no more, leaving residents without Channel 10 shows after joint licence holders WIN TV and Seven chose to discontinue the station, after 18 years
