the iphone supports 2 sim cards (one esim, one physical). I have a work line and a personal line on the same iphone. at the moment, you can’t set seperate lines for each sim in ios

Ahh right.

Generally if you can’t articulate why you think Ring is shit based on the company it comes from , then I think it is the user who doesn’t understand technology and resorts to stupid like the one you made . You always want people to stand by their opinion how bout u explain why you think it’s shit otherwise I’m just going to assume you couldn’t get it working because your not smart. If you are Joe Bidens age then that explains a lot. Cognitive decline and all.al

How about you don’t assume my level of technical prowess and while you’re at it, you can retract this bullshit.

I found the Ring ecosystem to be incredibly underwhelming, the app was garbage (and often failed to notify of doorbell rings/people detection), and it continually failed to play nicely with my WiFi setup (which is nothing particularly special) and the necessity to subscribe to get access to some functionality was just the icing on the cake to kick it to the kerb. I simply didn’t have the time to continually troubleshoot issues and needed something that worked and could be trusted to work.

Amazon have been found as recently as last week to have inappropriately accessed footage from people’s ring setups:

I replaced it with a Eufy system that worked out of the box and I have local access to the footage (I don’t bother with their remote access) - short of a more expensive system, these are some of the best entry level units on the market.

I am running the dev beta of iOS 17 and I’m now extremely pleased to report that you can finally set separate ringtones depending on which line is called.

This has been such a glaringly obvious missing feature that has been missing since more than one sim was possible.

Honestly this was the last chance for Apple to add this. If it wasn’t in iOS 17 (or they take it out) I was not going to buy the iPhone 15 - I was going to look at android.

Who uses ringtones? Old people? If someone doesn’t have their phone on vibrate I assume they’re infirmed.

I use ringtones (and yes, I’m old), but also because I’ll often put my phone on the table and sometimes I won’t see it vibrate eg. watching TV.

because i’m not always at my desk due to the nature of my work i need to know if my phone is ringing - it could be my wife calling about my daughters cancer

you can set up custom ringtones based on the contact - it may not be the different SIM, but it’s something

IOS 17 allows a per sim basis

I was actually going to wonder when that was going to happen . Wow I haven’t thought about 3 in year it was my first mobile carrier i went with to go on a plan. Oh yes the flip phones back then… in the infancy stage.

Did anyone here have a 3 mobile contract ?

Ahh yep my parents had trouble with theirs. Same issues they just ended up buying a different modem. It fixed the issue.

I have found with most products tech wise that the apps that come with hardware , in my cases with my tv tuners the software was a piece of crap. Such as my tv tuner card came with cyberlink power cinema (most bloated piece of junk ever)

I just read that article about the spying … Holy fuck that’s pretty bad …

I almost never use Amazon services, including Ring.

I use Nest Doorbells instead.

There is also a portable version called StandbyMe Go in which the TV screen is lifted from a case. It is not known whether StandbyMe Go will be available in Australia.

I’m not going to junk my UniFi gear because the doorbell won’t work on my wifi network properly.

For home stuff, I now buy stuff that can be integrated with HomeKit or even better Home Assistant where I have a little more control over it.
