A warning for all the swipers out there
Caved in and ordered the s22 Ultra 12/256GB model T_T
Youāll want to hope that the new Exynos 2200 processor performs better than the last generation, seeing as there isnāt too much data on it yet.
Australia is getting Snapdragon this year thankfully.
FINALLY. The Exynos chip doesnāt compare.
Thatās definitely a change, didnāt know that!
Although it will be funny if Samsung manages to get the Exynos 2200 outperforming the new Snapdragon. The 8 Gen 1 isnāt all that much improved in power efficiency, but instead focuses on better AI algorithms.
Iām half tempted to order too, but idk⦠kinda used to my iPhone 12 at this point
The first thing from Google buying out Cloudready
Did Flubot ever leave?
I havenāt had a text from a Flubot-affected device in a while so
UPDATED:
The disruptions were blamed on to two separate cuts to two of the three cables connecting Tasmania to the mainland.
One of the cuts was on the Victorian end, and the other on the Tasmanian side.
Telstra said āthird partiesā were the cause of both instances of cable damage.
Telstra said the Victorian cut to the cable appeared to be due to civil works earlier today in the Melbourne suburb of Frankston.
It said there had been āmassive damageā caused by the civil works.
The damage to the cableās Tasmanian end was caused by road workers, Telstra confirmed late on Tuesday.
About 11am, one of Telstraās fibre cables across Bass Strait was cut at Frankston, Victoria, by what the company later said was ācivil constructionā and a failure to ādial before you digā.
Then, about 1pm, the other Telstra cable was damaged on the Tasmanian side, with the company again blaming āthird partiesā.
Iām back online! Partly due to the tech issues but also due to just being busy and trying to catch up after COVID. What a great 48 hours to be in the tech industry!
So, first to yesterdayās fault. From what Iāve heard and as posted, first one was a civil contractor cut and damaged around 1km worth of cable at Frankston. Whether it was a failure of DBYD I donāt know because I know there have been times in the past where that service has been used and things still happened.
Anyway, that happened a bit after 11am and ordinarily wouldnāt have been noticed and wasnāt noticed. All the traffic on there was routed to the redundancy cable while crews were sent out to repair.
What happened on the Tassie end, Iām not fully sure, Iāve heard a few different stories. Sounds like it was around Stanley in the north west and Iāve heard of cables cut or power issues at a site and redundancy not kicking in and something about a few racks of equipment with no power.
Anyway, everything was restored on both links apparently from about 6:30pm onwards which was pretty impressive considering the amount of damage. During the period, Telstra had capacity on the third link which I think is the Basslink one but they had much reduced capacity. Priority was given to 000 calls, landline voice calls and mobile voice calls. Data was very patchy and limited - making it very difficult to find information out. I was having to use Teams on my phone for work as tethering with the computer wouldnāt work well and so many sites failed to load. When using Teams to get information it was extremely hit and miss, like when I posted it could be 5 seconds or 50 minutes for the message to go through and messages would come through in lots of about 30 at a time. So all those people with 4G redundancy in their modems it was useless.
TV, Iām not sure fully what happened as I wasnāt able to watch but I believe all channels went down for a bit but did come back to varying degrees.
Today however, Basslink has another issue and is running at reduced capacity. That seems to have knocked out our ABC TV coverage but all the others seem to be running ok and Iāve noticed that things do seem a bit slow again tonight than they were earlier today but certainly better than yesterday!
From what I can gather there are only the 3 fibre links across the strait, they want to get another one (the Marinus link) and it was controversial at the beginning even including it when Basslink went in but weāre lucky we did. We missed a good opportunity a few years ago however to join straight in on the internet backbone which would have been good.
There used to be a microwave link from Victoria down to Hobart running via Flinders Island and the East Coast of Tasmania but I believe that one was fully decommissioned a few years ago.
Got the phone late last week. Beautiful device. So snappy.
I was previously directly with Telstra and now moved over to Boost (still runs on the entire Telstra network minus 5G).
There have been numerous people getting 5G on their Boost plans so it looks like 5G could be enabled soon to everyone.
Was paying $65p/m and now paying closer to $18 p/m on prepaid 12 month expiry.
Why would a maker want to throttle an app?
Is it to protect battery life or reduce heat?
You wouldāve hoped that the iPhone SE (now in its 3rd generation) could at least have the notch design (instead of the home button)! From rumours, it seems that may only happen with the next iterationā¦
It would have sold much better with a fresher design and this price tag⦠one can only imagine it would then be admired far more than its Android alternatives.
Apart from the new iPhone SE + new āAlpine Greenā colour for the iPhone 13 series, Apple also launched:
- a new iPad Air with M1
as well as
- Mac Studio and Studio Display
