Major changes to SMS ID Register arrangements

The ACMA is proposing that:

  • unregistered sender IDs will be over-stamped with the word ‘Unverified’ from 15 December 2025. This means that all unregistered messages will appear in a single ‘Unverified’ message thread on mobile phones
  • international entities and Australian entities without an ABN will be able to register sender IDs directly with telcos certified by the ACMA, and
  • telcos not approved to participate in the scheme will not be allowed to carry SMS or MMS using sender IDs.

Other countries have has similar systems for years I don’t understand why Australia was so slow at adopting this. I used to work at a company that had to support the sending of SMS messages in many different jurisdictions and many had similar systems whereby messages were rejected without a registered sender ID and that was at least 3 years ago.

Just say you are Qantas and you are sending messages about frequent flyer points only Qantas or a related entity should be allowed to send messages that appear on your phone as coming from Qantas. It to me is a very simple measure to implement to prevent spam.

The Productivity Commission’s interim report, ‘Harnessing data and digital technology’, is a blueprint for the wholesale theft of Australia’s art, media, and cultural heritage that will do nothing more than further enrich the billionaires in Silicon Valley.

MEAA reiterates its call on government to respect the fundamental role that Australia’s creative and media workforce play in our society and introduce economy-wide regulations that will ensure consent, compensation and control over work that could be used to train AI.

How are they getting “trillions”?

Probably based on average wealth of an Aussie x 9.5 million.

I’m extremely average, I am not worth $1.022 million. Alive or dead.

Recently bought a Mac Mini M4 Pro, 24GB/1TB model.
Amazing machine. Can’t believe how little power it uses.

I guess I’m officially a convert. Offloading my Windows PC entirely and moving to Mac.

I recently got an M4 MacBook Air. I’m very happy with it. I reckon we’ve reached the point now where ARM laptops are mature enough for widespread adoption - leave x86/x64 for desktops and gaming.

I was a Macbook user for 5 years. It was great but I’ve gone back to windows since then. I’ve got a Thinkpad T16 now.

What made you go back to Windows?

At the time I first did it I was studying a Diploma in IT and the Mac book I had was great but I really wanted to got back to windows and learn as much as I could. Plus the other major reason was I always knew that if I went back to windows I always knew it would have a lot more compatibility then my Mac book.

The issue I had was what ever you wanted to install, or use (as in a application) had to be compatible. This is still the case now but its most likely alot better these days.

Commonwealth Bank has launched an Australian-first tool to help people check whether they’re about to be scammed. It can be difficult sometimes to work out whether a text message that’s landed in your phone is real or from a criminal trying to steal your information or money.

But CBA’s new AI-powered Scam Checker aims to crack down on this issue. Users will now be able to send a screenshot of the message to the Truyu app, which is owned by CBA, to check what they should do.

Telstra appears to have a 4G outage in NSW. Also my Telstra NBN FTTP stopped working at the same time, which isn’t listed on the website.
