Sydney vs Melbourne rivalry

Yes i agree high speed rail could make a HUGE difference up here… at the moment, most trains take 2 hrs 45 mins to get to Central station, by car it’s generally 2 hours.

Though I wonder if I’ll ever see that in my lifetime. It takes FOREVER for things to happen up here… they dithered for YEARS about whether to simply remove heavy rail from the Newcastle CBD.

Hopefully the government is looking into increasing the speeds of the new fleet they’re ordering. At present, the conventional Intercity trains are limited to 115km/h, despite some sections of track being capable of higher speeds.

They could also throw a bit of money into building passing loops to permit more express services to run.

ABS Population Figures have just been released. Massive growth in both Sydney and Melbourne.

As predicted Sydney passed the 5 million mark last year, and Melbourne over taking Sydney has been brought ahead by 14 years. Now expected in 2031 with resent growth figures.

IMO, about double the population figure that Sydney can healthily sustain.

Our cities can sustain much higher, but we don’t build the necessary infrastructure. Our train systems are still stuck in the 20th century.

Also will require denser living. Urban sprawl and everyone owning a massive block of land is simply unsustainable and means we all need to pay more to ensure services can reach those areas.

I shake my head every time I see one of those 'Say NO to 6 storeys in our suburb!" signs littered around where I live. Where do they suggest we live?

Report in the herald sun this morning that Melbourne wants to trial CBD-only day-light savings.

Clearly an Aprils Fools joke. Can we contain these in one thread?

Wrecks the fun of it then :stuck_out_tongue:

Boy you’re clearly a ball of fun

When every company and website started doing April Fools jokes, it kinda ruined it.

The moderators clearly should close this thread, now that Brisbane has an important edge over both cities:

When no-one wants to go there, is it any surprise the toilets are that clean?

I’ve had to put up with a lot in this thread with people from states with inferior toilets shitting on my state’s achievement, but this is the final straw. You’re wrong.

No one wants to go to Perth.

Ahh, I see what you did there!

It seems that, by the time anyone gets to the airport, no one needs to give a shit.
