Sunrise

It’s probably because I’m a Pom and our TV is more formal (perhaps too formal) but I find the whole ‘Nat and Shirvo’ thing so jarring.

A later return than usual for the Sunrise A team. They’d usually come back in time for the start of the Aus Open.

But no need to rush them back, Sunrise has not skipped a beat without them all summer.

And they did work right up until the week before Christmas.

welcome to the Australian media, see also Australian commercial radio where any presenting line-up has to have an ocker nickname to make them relatable

Looks like Nat will be back from Monday.

That must be why Michael Wipfli and Samantha Armytage flopped. They should have been Wippa and Armo.

At least when it comes to real names we’re fortunate enough to have proper ones for our hosts. Imagine having an Ed Balls hosting your breakfast show daily as ‘Ballsie’ :winking_face_with_tongue:

“Ballsie and Reid” does have a certain ring to it, I must admit :winking_face_with_tongue:

Nah Ballsie and Susie is where we’re at down here…

Do we know if a replacement for Mark Beretta will be announced, or if the role will remain unfilled and read by a host?

Not if it was a redundancy

He was only doing 2 days a week for at least year!!

Seeing Katie this morning covering horse racing for Sunrise made me wonder whether they’ll just use her to cover some big days of sport or special events.

These high profile don’t do redundancy like you or I.

If it was the case he was asked to leave, both parties would agree to terms that would see him leave while leaving Seven open to filling the position rather than it being a typical redundancy where no one can work in the position going forward.

Given Shirvo came from a sporting background, I can’t see no reason why he can’t permanently present sport (in addition to co-presenting the show) going forward.

IMO, it’s the most logical thing to do.

Plus it’s saving their budget also

When Beretts was reduced to two days a week and no one presented the other days or when he had leave, it is very clear that Sunrise’s intention was not to have a sport presenter. I get what you are saying, but they haven’t had one on weekends now for nearly six years. They reduced Beretts’ days to phase him out and make sure the ratings weren’t going to take hit. Then they dropped him and the role completely. It was evidently a cost cutting decision, and I don’t see Seven being in a better financial position where they see the need to add the role back in the foreseeable future.

Whatever the reason, all I’m am saying is that they will not have legal restrictions on filling that position should they chose to do so.
