I believe it was happening even prior to him leaving.
The article isn’t free from flaws though. It is inconsistent in whether it uses News Breakfast’s news channel audience and, when referring to 2019, it seems to reference random data from different days. 300k and 177k were not the yearly 5CM averages for either Sunrise or Today respectively. This is one of my gripes when journos, particularly at the Daily Mail, evidently have no understanding of ratings but still do columns about it.
The best bit from the article was the analysis from David Knox:
Its happening across the industry. Heaps of people are leaving newsrooms. People are getting better offers in other industries while companies are also pushing longserving employees towards redundancies so they can pay them out while the budgets can afford them
It’s basically a combination of the Great Resignation and HR wanting to clear out expensive staff before the looming recession.
Whoops! (screenshot not mine):
Oh dear…
Oh dear indeed.
What are “activations”?

Thank you
Sunrise will commence at 4.30am with live coverage of the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
Considering they’ve gone for black in the studio replacing the red graphics on black would look much more appropriate too.
Then everyone would say it was too black
From Seven HER MAJESTY QUEEN ELIZABETH II MOURNED
Historic coverage from 4.30am on Sunrise and 7NEWS
As Australia, the Commonwealth and the world mourns the death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, join Sunrise for historic coverage from 4,30am on Channel 7 and 7plus.
The longest-serving British monarch “died peacefully” at the age of 96, with the Crown now passing to her eldest son and heir, Charles, formerly Prince of Wales.
The 73-year-old new King and Camilla, Queen Consort were at his mother’s bedside, on her Balmoral Estate, along with his siblings Anne, Princess Royal; Andrew, Duke of York; and Edward, Earl of Wessex.
Prince William, Duke of Cambridge and Cornwall joined his brother Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex as the Royal Family rushed to farewell their beloved ‘Granny’; while their respective wives, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge and Cornwall and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, kept vigil from the Royal Windsor Estate, near London.
Emblematic of her pledge to devote her life to serving the people of the British empire and Commonwealth, the Queen – while looking frail - carried out her final duty as sovereign two days ago - farewelling outgoing British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and greeting his successor, the 15the Prime Minister under Her Majesty’s reign, Liz Truss.
Sunrise hosts Natalie Barr and David Koch will anchor rolling coverage, with live crosses to UK and European correspondents Hugh Whitfeld and Sarah Greenhalgh; and an expert guest list including royal editor Robert Jobson, royal commentator Victoria Arbiter, royal correspondent, Emily Andrews, ITV News royal editor, Chris Ship and Daily Mirror royal editor Russell Myers.
The in studio presentation is quite elegant.

Not sure on that intro - seems a bit overly dramatic. Today’s was much more respectful.
