Sunrise (2015-Sept 2020)

I don’t get how she was “judgemental” or has “no idea what she is talking about” when she only said “I agree”

I don’t see anything judgemental about it… I mean sure she isn’t a teacher, but when you look at it at a state by state basis, if the state is getting 0 cases and there is no evidence of community transmission then of course one would instinctively assume its time to go back to school in a face to face mode.

She can’t really assume anything with this virus though, it’s still around though. Well everyone has different opinions on it, I just think she just needs to be careful. We all know where her political views. You can’t really have someone in media advocating for one particular political view? eh?

Not the first time Sam’s done this either, she was spreading misinformation and lies about the source of the bushfires over the summer too. It’s genuinely hugely irresponsible and dangerous - and she knows what she’s doing.

If she wants to check out of reality and be a right wing shock jock I’m sure Sky or 2GB and their miserable audiences will have her.

They’re still pre-recording the part of the news where Nat reads all the state tallies of the virus. Not quite as obvious as they now have her seated for it, but you can tell it’s not live.
Wonder why they do that?

What makes you think it’s not live?

Just watching it and it’s very in depth still. Lots of numbers and all states. Could see why they would record it once since they play it every half hour.

Sunrise maintained its audience as News Breakfast and Today dropped from Monday. Sunrise was 80k ahead of News Breakfast and 100k ahead of Today. Today again won in Brisbane.

I think a lot of parents would agree with Sam. The amount of work calls I have been on that have been interrupted by children… people even have time out of their diary for ‘homeschooling’.

This is not viable long term, and so the essence of what Sam said is absolutely true. I think it goes without saying that that should only happen when it is safe to do so.

What I don’t get is why parents have to have anything to do with the teaching, bar checking progress. Surely the students, bar maybe Prep and Year 1, should be able to, for the most part, independently work on the tasks and work set for them by the teachers. From what I have heard, most primary schools set work for the week/day and the students work on it on their devices. Secondary schools run on the same timetables as normal and students work from what the teacher has set/log onto a video call with the class and work through their work. I don’t see why parents have to be involved in any part of the process (sparing hands-on tasks/not child safe tasks: e.g. cooking, painting, etc.).

And a lot of public health officials would disagree with Sam, but what do the experts know!

I think it’s because of the graphics.

Totally agree.

And it’s a bit clunky or something. Maybe the volume and tone of Nat’s voice. Watch it closely before and after.

You’re correct. They don’t have to teach, just supervise. But that’s a discussion for another time and place.

What’s going on? 9 News has been winning most of the year, and lately Hot Seat as well?!

So from year 2 you expect children to work independently 9-3?

I think that’s fanciful and I think Sam’s comments were not unlike what parents would be feeling across the country.

Yep definitely pre-recorded. Nat gulps in a couple of places reading the update this morning.

You have convinced yourself now hey?

All this talk of Sam and her opinions. Every morning the NSW Premier gives her update and makes a point to say whilst the numbers are low, it’s still important to be vigilant and be careful etc. Every day Kochie downplays the numbers. And it’s Nat or Sam that has to reiterate the comments.

Perhaps it’s a Sunrise thing rather than just the individuals? Or perhaps it is just who the individuals are.

There goes the Weight Watchers endorsement. First the pay cut from Seven and now this. How will she survive?
