I really don’t get the issue, there is nothing preventing her providing an opinion so why should she just sit there. Just because it doesn’t align to “views” of some on here doesn’t mean she needs to be removed from presenting the segment.
She’s the host. She should be driving the discussion (and moderating) with the panelists (whoever they are) providing opinions on the topic. If she was one of the panelists providing opinions then by all means she can offer her POV.
I dont think there was too much in it this morning from Sam. She certainly isn’t saying anything the public isnt saying.
Well if you actually watch the video she was driving the discussion by providing small input as a transition to the next question… she only said “I agree”… Its not as though she had a full minute providing her opinions.

I’m not here to defend Sam on everything but what I do get tired of seeing is comments on a number of occasions criticising (often vastly exaggerated) what she says because it doesn’t align to members views on here.
Sunrise won Monday by 75,000 over News Breakfast with Today another 10,000 behind. Today had a win in Brisbane though.
Annette Sharp broke this story a couple of days ago, and Sam has since confirmed it. What Sharp was suggesting, whether you agree or not, was that this supports her earlier claims that Sam was negotiating terms of her contract with the network. And she is suggesting that this new management is significant given the same manager had Lisa walk from Nine when the network wouldn’t meet her conditions. Generally, nobody cares if Sam gets a new manager. Perhaps the timing and who it is, is what is of interest.
Brisbane has been Today’s most competitive market for the past 2 years. Definitely not Melbourne or Sydney.
Today used to be number one Sydney and Melbourne for about 6 consecutive years between 2010/11-2016 (if not longer). During the Mel Doyle days, Sunrise used to struggle in the Melbourne market the most. There was market research that that market loved Lisa Wilkinson, and when she left Today, Today’s Melbourne audience (and their national audience) has weakened. Today is doing better this year in Melbourne than last, but they are still regularly beaten by the ABC.
yes you are right about today in melbourne getting beaten by the abc. pre covid-19 when i was in melbourne the motel we was in and and the restaurants we would eat for breakfast never had sunrise or today it was always abc news breakfast
I don’t know anything about motels but I think you’d probably find hotels have the channel on ABC News 24 all day. Not about them preferring news breakfast over Sunrise & Today…
Can you imagine it getting to midday and them having the midday movie on? No… I wouldn’t have thought so either.
Happy for Sam to have her opinion, she’s entitled, just as I am. But it gets a bit wearing when it’s the same slant every time. Surely you’re alienating part of your audience (for example, me).
I’ll accept removing her is probably a bit drastic, but why not rotate the segment between her, Kochie and Nat, and even Eddie when she returns, so there is a balance of any personal views that many come through.
Just a suggestion.
To be fair, Nat isnt much better in that Hot Topics segment I have found.
Promo now has Sam saying “we need to get kids back to school in a hurry.” As a person in a school in Qld, that is so annoying because it goes against our government’s advice and will only mislead parents and cause MORE confusion. Irresponsible. Thanks for nothing Seven and Sunrise.
Why the hurry? Some parts in Australia could still some cases, some may not even be known, but who knows? Maybe there will be another dramatic rise in cases in some states.
7 cases were linked to schools in Victoria alone, there’s new reports coming from the US about young people getting blood clots and other previously unknown effects from Covid-19, but no, on the advice of the face of Weight Watchers, let’s send everyone back to school.
Blood clots? Jesus, I didn’t know it could go to that. I live in SA, where for the last 6 days we have had no cases, plus the Barossa which was considered a ‘COVID-19’ hot-spot is no-longer a threat.
I’m not blaming Sam this time… yes it’s her words… but 7 and Sunrise didn’t need to pick it out and make my job even harder than it is at the moment. Come and work in a school. It’s always been a challenging job but unbelievable in the last month or so.
I’m tired of reactionary, right leaning personalities thinking just because they’re on the telly, they are an expert. Listen to scientists and the medicos. Not someone on their soapbox on a morning show. It’s going to get as bad as the US (media wise, not Covid) if we don’t kick these shows back into line, and back to honest reporting.
@blackbox had a comedy lady on his show i have forgotten her name iam apolgise but she did a paradody about the whole celebrity we are in this together tv adds with actors i think but saying what normal aussies are thinking and saying . one thing that stood out to me is that sam is in her padock in nsw . she is a celebrity she still get;s paid for working , she gots not idea whats it like for ordanary aussies doing it tough . yet 7 and sunrise does this. very poor form 7 and sunrise
…and Sam and Sunrise and Scomo can think and say what they like, but they don’t run schools in the states. Give school employees, parents and kids a break. We don’t need to have all this ongoing discussion and debate. Decisions have been made by the states. Leave it at that.
Agree. I think it’s dangerous when they think they can tell the government this is how it should and shouldn’t be. Add to the fact these teachers give up a lot of their spare time to prepare for class work and etc etc. I worked with a few teachers and I can tell you they are seriously under paid and given the current climate and with COVID-19 Sam has no idea what she is talking about it. She shouldn’t be using her media role to convey a one sided personal view like she has.
Id like to see her and how she could handle it if she was a teacher for even a week. She wouldn’t be so quick to be judgemental.
Sam is the biggest mistake of Sunrise. Mel was so much better!
