I don’t think Nine will spend big on EPL rights, these will most likely stay with Optus Sport. I can also see Optus Sport picking up the Asian Champions League.

Isn’t the Asian Champions League part of the AFC broadcast rights that Paramount+ currently have? I can’t see it de-coupled from other tournaments like Asian Cup.

Correct.

What makes you say that? It will give them a major sport throughout 9mths of the year.

Huge numbers watch it and would sub to stan. Optus has seen the reward of that rights deal.

Optus Sport has been lazy in recent years, not picking up the FA Cup when they had the chance (it went to ESPN), not bidding on the A-league rights (which went to Paramount +) and losing the UEFA Champions League and Europa League to Stan Sport, this showed Stan as keen to grab as many soccer rights as possible. I am going to predict either Stan Sport or Paramount + to get the EPL rights next season.

Considering they have spent big on Rugby Union, Tennis and UEFA football rights recently, I can’t see them forking out a huge amount in a bidding war with Optus, who will be keen to keep the rights. Nine may opt to wait until the next broadcast deal comes up to grab them.

Actually, you are correct. They are with Network 10 / Paramount+ for this season.

I’m not sure if they will be showing the ACL next season though?

The PL would have to be a major target for Stan - not only would it bring a raft of customers, but it could also see the end of Optus Sport (meaning one less competitor)

I’d like to see Stan get some other sports - not easy I know, but it would really round out what is emerging as a decent alternative to Fox/Kayo.

They would be doing the cost benefits to see if going for the rights will increase growth but enough to cover the costs etc; for us it’s a wait and see.

I expect them to be interested and will ask the questions. Doesn’t mean they’ll get it, but nothing wrong pushing Optus or Fox to increase their bid if they go for it.

It would definitely add subscribers to Stan Sport if they picked up the EPL. Would be a big blow to Optus Sport if this were to happen, but it will be interesting to watch what happens.

The sports streaming space is getting quite crowded so eventually you would think there will be consolidation and winners/losers (some could exit the market if they lose some sports rights). I think Nine are in a good position going forward with Stan Sport and with Paramount+ entering the space, the competition for sports rights is increasing.

Could this be the precursor to Stan Sport buying the rights to other UCI sanctioned events, including World Tour and Track Cycling World Championships? SBS currently has the rights to World Tour races held outside Australia, while Fox Sports has the Track Cycling World Championships.

I wonder what the further announcements will be…

What’s going to be the point of difference between the AO coverage on 9Now and Stan Sport?

IIRC Mubadala Championship was previously shown on beIN Sport in Australia but I am not sure it was part of the channel’s broadcast deal with ATP Tour.

A deal with Athletics Australia or World Athletics (formerly IAAF)?

Stan is ad-free.

ATP tour itself has a contract with BeIN Sports

Does anyone know how long this contract was for?

That middle eastern event is unrelated, has nothing to do with the atp tour
