It’s odd that Stan is more interested in Japanese Rugby competition than the World Rugby Sevens Series, which has just started the 2021/22 season.
Who’s to say they weren’t interested? Maybe this is the rights they could get?
World Rugby Sevens Series currently does not have an Australian broadcaster, after the deal with Fox Sports ended at the completion of the previous season.
Stan have always said they don’t want to overpay for sports rights. Guess that’s the case here
With no Sydney tournament in 2022, I’m guessing there wasn’t a lot of value for Stan for the time being with most of the events in an inconvenient time zone
Interesting pickups - WEC has been pretty well homeless since Eurosport left. Fox always did late deals for Indycar (and I guess only one year at a time)
Basically motorsport is now split between Fox Sports and Stan Sport.
It will be interesting to see how Stan and Nine will cover Rally Australia, when it returns to World Rally Championship calendar.

“I’m super excited that Aussie fans can watch INDYCAR at any time, live and on demand in Australia on Stan Sport. 2022 is shaping up to be a great season with an exciting schedule.”The FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) is the world’s highest level of rally competition and pits drivers, co-drivers and production-based cars against some of the most brutally tough and unforgiving terrain on the planet. Consisting of thirteen events, run over three or four days, the WRC season will kick off with the iconic Rallye Monte-Carlo on January 20 and will move on to a range of challenging surfaces featuring gravel, asphalt, snow and ice and unique environments around the world.

Stan Sport’s Motorsport coverage begins on Thursday 20 January with the opening WRC event in Monte-Carlo - streaming live, ad-free and on-demand.
The WEC was previously on Eurosport
Both WRC and WEC have their own streaming services as well. Will be interesting to see if either of those services would be affected in terms of availability in Australia after these new deals.
Do wonder if that points to them having a shot at F1 rights whenever they come up…
The whole season of WRC is shown on Redbull TV. Also, I’m pretty sure WEC races were on Bein sports.
Was it? I had to subscribe to WEC TV (which was just above garbage) to watch Le Mans
F1 locked up with Fox Sports
Yep. Le mans used to be shown across Bein and fox sports. I’m don’t think it was on last year.
While there’s been a couple of media reports indicating that F1 is staying with Fox next year (correction: 2023), having narrowly beaten Stan, nothing has officially been confirmed yet either from Formula One Management or Fox Sports.
Next year was the final year of the fox deal. We have seen nothing official aside from a few media reports for 2023 and beyond. Fox have never given a press release of a deal extension. They only did that for MotoGP
Yes, that’s correct, apologies, I’m getting ahead of myself by a whole year!
Correct and a person I know at fox has confirmed he has no knowledge of an extension.
I seriously believe the article that said it is wrong and meant MotoGP and not F1.
The waiting game continues to find out.
Yep and nothing from News (Fox) owned papers.
Only smh/theage and AFR have reported on the deal.
