Tara hasn’t been seen this week on Sydney’s 5PM News so i’d assume she’s away.
Well that would make sense.
I like the idea of Kickoff being Sports Tonight branded but screening after the news and shortening the runtime feels like it isn’t giving the main brand space to breathe.
I feel the appeal of ST in its original run was the obscure sports like dog surfing or international pebble throwing, hot dog eating etc, which it just feels like it’s soccer and the other big sports atm. This week’s PotD have both been from baseball, I think it would be better to do some quirkier sports to engage interest.
During its original run, the Mon-Thurs ST was around 20 minutes of a 45 minute bulletin (with commercial breaks) and obviously had the opener with the presenter and branding at the time. It’s currently pigeon holed after 30-40 minutes of News as a 5 - 10 minutes segment with stories people already have seen if they cared about it. They nailed the 06-11 format and would work today with some minor tweaks too.
I do see a missed opportunity to bring back the old ST Twitter account and merge/deactivate/archive one (why did they make a new one in 2018?) https://x.com/Sportstonight1 and https://x.com/SportsTonight, combined they have over 4000 followers, The original one has 3k and the 2018 one has 1k, I suspect a large overlap between the two in followers.
it might be challenging due to budgeting, but also the chemistry between Sandra and Brad made the old Late News/ST appointment viewing for some. Having the presenters together on set would make this a whole lot better imo. I think Max is a great presenter and gives off Brad McEwan and Rob Canning vibes, perfect for this show.
I saw a 10 News Sport Update during MasterChef and HYBPA but would be better to have any sport update after the 5pm News an ST branded update with Max or Adrian.
I’m hoping the Thursday and Friday editions are longer and if successful a weekend edition would be great in the future.

Adrian Franklin on tonight. Not a fan of his presenting style. Max Burford is better.
It should be called 10 News Late with Sports Tonight. I hope they are going to do a special extended edition of Sports Tonight for the AFL and NRL Finals Series and call it Sports Tonight: Football Tonight Finals Edition. They should have crosses throughout the edition of Sports Tonight to a reporter on the ground covering the World Cup, F1, Supercars, NRL, AFL, Tennis etc. It doesn’t have to be a reporter on 10s books but rather a journo.
I can’t help but feel that if 10 land the NRL this is already propped up ready to roll as a magazine show. Also suspicious its come on air around the same time as NRL rights bids were due

Not sure how it was last week, but tonight’s Late News ended up with the Sports Tonight segment, then straight into the Weekly Kick Off.
Did the News go into the Weather report (if one), then into Sports Tonight?
How has the standalone ST been rating?

It’s just a randomly assorted list of names. Numbers are not meant to be jersey numbers.

I know. Jersey numbers are known ahead of time. 10 didn’t use that though.
They just list players 1 to 26.

The ‘on now’ strap at the bottom of those caps is fairly unique. Interesting way to get people to stick around if there’s something specific they want to see though could also have the opposite result.
