Sports That Don’t Have Or Need A Thread

Big night in the PDC World Darts Championship…

Kenyan David Munyua became the first Kenyan to win in the WC, beating Dutchman Mike De Decker, whilst Japanese player Motomu Sakai wowed the crowd with an energetic performance against Frenchman Thibault Tricole. Now this match was a cracker to watch. Sakai charmed his way onto stage and backed up his performance. The crowd didn’t like Tricole at all.

Menawhile, Michael van Gerwen and Dave Chisnall made their way into the 2nd round, with Chizzy beating Queen of the Palace Fallon Sherrock.

Thursday December 18
Afternoon Session

Tonight and tomorrow mornings games:

Friday December 19
Afternoon Session (1230 GMT)
Round One x4

Kevin Doets v Matthew Dennant
Ryan Meikle v Jesus Salate
Mickey Mansell v Leonard Gates
Josh Rock v Gemma Hayter

Evening Session (1900 GMT)
Round One x4

William O’Connor v Krzysztof Kciuk
Daryl Gurney v Beau Greaves - the best chin in darts vs the best female player in darts. Should be a cracker. Greaves is half a chance of winning if she carries on her form into the WC.
Nathan Aspinall v Lourence Ilagan
Keane Barry v Tim Pusey (Aussie) - fun fact: Pusey can’t use his nick name “The Magnet” for the same reason Owen Bates can’t use “Master”.. This match also finishes off round 1.

Doping at the darts?

It does happen. This article explains it better than I can.

They do get testeed, as Matt Edgar explains

I’ve been flat out all day, so I missed out on posting last night’s/this morning’s games. Basically, Greaves is out but not for lack of trying, Aussie Tim Pusey is out, but looked like he had fun on the way down, and Jonny Clayton gets a bye to round 3 because of the afore-mentioned Dom Taylor ban.

Round two starts tonight as I am posting.

Saturday December 20
Afternoon Session (1230 GMT)
Round Two x4

Ryan Searle v Brendan Dolan
Andreas Harrysson v Motomu Sakai - should be a fun game to watch.
Dirk van Duijvenbode v James Hurrell
Dave Chisnall v Ricardo Pietreczko

Evening Session (1900 GMT)
Round Two x4

Michael Smith v Niels Zonneveld
Chris Dobey v Andrew Gilding
Stephen Bunting v Nitin Kumar
Jonny Clayton Bye (Dom Taylor suspended)

Something more “special” than Bruce McAveney - the ongoing PDC World Darts Championships entered round 2 last night and this morning.

Afternoon Session
Round Two x4
Ryan Searle 3-0 Brendan Dolan (3-1, 3-0, 3-1)
Andreas Harrysson 3-0 Motomu Sakai (3-2, 3-1, 3-2) - shame that Sakai got dumped out. He’s very entertaining and the crowd loves him.
James Hurrell 3-2 Dirk van Duijvenbode (1-3, 3-0, 3-1, 1-3, 3-1)
Ricardo Pietreczko 3-2 Dave Chisnall (3-1, 3-1, 1-3, 0-3, 4-2)

Evening Session (1900 GMT)
Round Two x4

Niels Zonneveld 3-1 Michael Smith (3-1, 1-3, 3-2, 3-0) - the Dutchman dumped the former World Champion in 4 sets.
Andrew Gilding 3-1 Chris Dobey (2-3, 3-0, 3-1, 3-2)
Stephen Bunting 3-0 Nitin Kumar (3-1, 3-0, 3-1)
Jonny Clayton Bye (Dom Taylor suspended) - he goes onto Round 3.

Tonight and tomorrow morning’s matches:

Afternoon Session (1230 GMT)

Luke Woodhouse v Max Hopp
Rob Cross v Ian White

Evening Session (1900 GMT)
Round Two x4

Martin Schindler v Keane Barry
Gerwyn Price v Wesley Plaisier
Luke Littler v David Davies
Damon Heta (Aussie) v Stefan Bellmont - a good chance of going further.

nearly fumbled this but thank god Damon got it done in the fifth.

I was surprised at Gerwyn’s early exit, but what a match that was.

And then there was this

https://x.com/rockstar_13_/status/2002757165862342696?s=20

makes me dislike Joe Cullen even more. Mensur was hilarious and did exactly what he needed to do (apparently then sent a message off to Luke Littler saying something like “i’ll see you after xmas”).

I saw bits and bobs of this, thankfully he got it done. Likewise Gerwyn’s match, that was a shock.

Cullen isn’t alone in people hating Mensur for his slow style of playing. Mensur had dartitis and has to adapt his style and is slow as a result.

15 and back. 17 and back. What a great start to NBA’s Christmas Day slate.

Then Thunder got owned by Spurs again. Nothing new, it’s only happened for the third time this season.

Mavs-Warriors currently tight.

After the Xmas break, the PDC World Darts Championships are back in full swing with round 3.

Probably the biggest shock was seeing Stephen Bunting get knocked out in the way he got knocked out. Luke Littler keeps rolling along into the next round.

Didn’t see the winners but we went for a drive this evening and saw Palm Beach XI (formerly Wild Oats XI) sailing up the Derwent towards the finish line off Sandy Bay. Finally some decent weather today too.
