Sports That Don’t Have Or Need A Thread

Why do we need the nod to Japan? Shouldn’t there be a nod to France?

I think it’s an error in the headline - perhaps they’ve tweaked copy they’ve used in the past for Tokyo or something. Not mentioned in the copy that I saw .

At the bottom of the article:

The apparel also incorporates a Japonism Yagasuri — an arrow pattern signifying strength, steadfastness, and determination — in a nod to the Japanese heritage of uniform provider ASICS.

I need my eyes checked, honestly

I think it will only be strange of other nations using ASICS apparel do NOT have the same pattern. Usually in competition Olympic uniforms are pretty much template based with a tweak or two for colours.

Carlos Sainz has won the Australian Formula One Grand Prix in Melbourne, two weeks after falling ill prior to Saudi Arabia race and having to undergo an operation. It is Sainz’s third win of his F1 career, and his first win since Singapore last year.

Sainz’s Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc finished second and McLaren driver Lando Norris finished third. Oscar Piastri was fourth. Daniel Ricciardo was 12th.

It’s the first time in 20 years that Ferrari has claimed top two spots in Melbourne.

Championship leader Max Verstappen retired in lap 3 when his rear right brake caught fire, followed by Lewis Hamilton on lap 15 due to engine failure. The end of the race was marred by George Russell’s big crash on the final lap.

The four-day event posted a new record total attendance of 452,055, after 132,106 went to today’s race.

He had appendicitis (and had his appendix removed of course), and was still in doubt right up to race time as to whether he would be fit enough to race.

Tim Tszyu has lost his WBO and WBC super welterweight title fight against Sebastian Fundora, in a split points decision. The bout at Las Vegas went the whole 12 rounds. Tszyu suffered a large cut above his left eye near the end of round 2 (from a stray Fundora elbow), and fought the next ten rounds with blood flowing from the cut.

Tszyu’s loss means there will be a rematch in Australia later this year, after the two camps signed a rematch clause early last week in case of Fundora’s victory.

JackJumpers forward Jack McVeigh claimed the Larry Sengstock Trophy as NBL Championship MVP.

My facebook and all socials are absolutely filled with all Jack Jumpers stuff. It’s been the biggest month in Tasmanian sport for probably ever with the launch of the Devils at the beginning of the month and now the JJ’s becoming the most successful expansion club in any sport in Australian history with a title within 3 years.

A lot of happy Tasmanians tonight and they have a family day in Hobart tomorrow and it is going to be huge.

The Melbourne Storm won an NRL Premiership in their second season of existence, but it is still an impressive feat by the JackJumpers.

bugger, I hadn’t had a chance to fact check that one so took it on face value! We’ll go with most successful Tasmanian expansion club!

He’s right. Storm started in 1998, won the following year.

But still a great effort from the Double Js from the smallest state to win after just 3 years.

Indeed a big month for Tassie sport.

There is no guarantee that the fight will be in Australia. I wouldn’t be surprised if the rematch is back in the USA, particularly now that Fundora has the belts.

Also Tim lost his WBO super welterweight belt. The WBC belt was vacant before the fight.
