Sports That Don’t Have Or Need A Thread

Good news. Let’s hope people now treat him fairly since he has been cleared. He will no doubt have suffered some loss of his great reputation which is extremely unfortunate especially with the B sample coming back negative and clearing him from cheating. We support and believe you Peter.

Surely there should be an investigation into how the first test came back positive. I heard so many commentators at the time come out and say that “the B test never comes back negative”. Perhaps ill-informed or is there more to the story yet to come.

And his hasnt come back negative - its come back as an “atypical finding” (according to Sports Integrity Australia) and will continue to be investigated

Good. Move it to a proper regional city rather than a glorified suburb of Melbourne.

Bairnsdale for the Closing Ceremony is my suggestion

Have it at the Hudson Alvin Oval. Home of the mighty Lucknow Cricket Club.

For the last five days, Wide World of Sports, SMH and The Age have been counting down on Australia’s 50 most influential women in sport. The top 10, as revealed this morning, are:
10 Alyssa Healy (cricket)
9 Caroline Wilson (AFL journalist)
8 Josephine Sukkar (Australian Sports Commission chair)
7 Daisy Pearce (recently retired AFLW premiership captain)
6 Lauren Jackson (basketball)
5 Ellyse Perry (cricket)
4 Cate Campbell (swimming)
3 Ash Barty (retired tennis star)
2 Gina Rinehart (mining magnate)
1 Sam Kerr (Matildas captain)

Certainly wouldn’t have had Cate Campbell or Caro in the top 10, their influence has been diminished in the last few years. Given the Olympics are her baby how Anastasia Alphabet isn’t in the 10 is a mystery.

Palaszczuk ranked equal-16th on the list (equal with Gai Waterhouse) - although the reasons are just as much for being able to offer Covid bubbles for so many sports to keep them going, in 2021 in particular, as for the Olympics.

At least they gave the number of votes each got (out of the 200 possible… ten voters, 20 points for no.1, 19 for no.2 etc… much like the US college sports polls)…
outside the top three (which… Sam Kerr is hard to argue against, and I could easily see the argument for Rinehart even though it wouldn’t be the next I’d have thought of), none of those in the next ten or fifteen were anywhere near unanimous picks… which shows that it wasn’t exactly an easy selection in any case.

Sydney Kings have claimed back-to-back NBL titles, overcoming a slow start to defeat New Zealand Breakers 77-69 in game 5 of the championship series at Qudos Bank Arena tonight. Derrick Walton Jr. was named championship series MVP.

Wouldn’t it be a bit too hard to surf at night? You wouldn’t be able to see the waves come in very easily.

Max Verstappen won a dramatic Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne this afternoon, which was stopped three times due to crashes. Melbourne’s Oscar Piastri, making his local GP debut, finished eighth.
