It’s a great song and good to hear it back on the radio again…
Although back in the day it was on the radio ALL the time. To the point where Wendy herself made a joke on radio saying her friends were telling her they were sick of hearing the bloody song
I listen to Smooth most afternoons while I’m working from home. Other than the said competition still happening the music is not a lot different. At the moment they are playing Build me up Buttercup by the Foundations. A great song.
That is a great song. Very Smooth FM. I’ve been listening to Smooth Relax on the app a bit recently. That really is a great format. Probably the best put together DAB station in Australia. Reminds me a lot of the sound they had when they launched.
Yep Smooth Relax is what Smooth FM used to be and one of the best DAB stations on offer. Yet the geniuses at NE took it off DAB in cities like Brisbane where they actually need it the most…
I wouldn’t be surprised if some retail businesses play this station in their store. If Nova did somehow buy 4KQ it would come with 256 kbps of bandwidth. I think you’ll see Smooth Relax back in Brisbane (I didn’t know it was originally in Brisbane). Also it would be almost certain some Nova DAB formats too.
I think this is somewhat true of the Smooth voice trackers generally … to me they are way too smarmy and slick. By contrast I am enjoying the voice tracks on Easy Music 2UE … the announcers are not big names but imho far more relatable and engaging.
The music variety thing has definitely improved. But I have this thing with myself where I always say, any session I sit down and have Smooth on, I will hear a Bruno Mars track.
Yeah agree. That is what turns me off smooth. Smarmy is the right word. I don’t feel like I am good enough to listen haha (maybe I am being a bit harsh), I always prefer a down to earth radio DJ, its great to hear a guy complain about the music he plays from time to time rather than always praising the music they play.
Most Smooth announcers during the day are fine. However I think it is David Campbell on the weekend who is really cringy especially when he says “love you bye” at the end of he’s show. However they should employ Karen Prater as a permanent presenter.
Smooth need to make there announcers a bit more alive and axe the personalities that just voice track like Richard Wilkins, David Cambell, cam daddo. As if he would work 7 days a week?? Add some more experienced announcers
I think it’s the other way around. In Sydney you have 2DayFM, Smooth & WSFM all fighting for the same audience. Out of those 3 Smooth FM pull it off best with sound and execution. Of course 2UE now with the ‘easy listening’ will shave some top end listeners off over time unless Smooth do something about it and find a way to go back to their roots? With WSFM. It feels like its a wall of sound with their imaging and jocks.
In Melbourne, it’s the other way around. Gold are by far ahead of Smooth with localism & execution. Do WSFM/Gold share the same log? I don’t know if it will ever happen but Smooth Melbourne and Sydney could be programmed differently (maybe different announcers too?). It could really help those Melbourne numbers for them.
