Let’s say Coles has a racist and/or homophobic sign in their store. People are outraged at Coles, suppliers threaten to leave, but Coles comes back saying, ‘yes it was mistake, but the sign was only in the Fruit and Veg department’. That doesn’t negate the outrage at the entire brand.

Ohh right… she oringally started there as Sydney reporter. Perhaps her role has changed then.

So Greg Thompson “quits” after an incident as an MC, yet nobody has been fired for this Nazi incident which has seen advertisers pull out, Sky banned at train stations…?
ABC needs to get David Speers. Kieran Gilbert should partner up with his brother at Channel 9 and Laura Jayes can work with husband at 7 News.

And Andrew Bolt can work with his spiritual mother running her mining operation.

I was expressing a personal view of Marcus - she’s presenting Saturday & Sunday Edition so Sky still uses her a journalist

ABC should poach Speers for the Federal Election campaign

No one should be forced to listen to or watch Bolt, though everyone should have the right to if they want to.

If you want to watch it then you can subscribe but if you’re on a train platform and it’s on the screen in front of you and blaring out the speakers then you can’t get away from it.

It is amusing seeing people carrying on how this is “censorship” and limiting “free speech”. You’d think they were shutting down the channel!

All that’s happened is that it is being taken off from TV screens at 3 metro train stations. People can still watch it and there’s a few million households about to be whacked over the head with it on free to air.

The boycotts and the transport minister’s ban only serves to raise Cottrell’s profile and push those already leaning to the far right to question whether some of his extreme views are legitimate. There are more than a few people who’ve suddenly been attracted to his cause because they see the attempts to silence him as an attack on free speech.

Likely because it wasn’t a broadcast - it was a headlines loop, mostly weather. Nothing offensive on what is actually shown, unlike places that show a live feed of the channel.

All today has done is further entrench the tribal ‘culture war’ mentality that many on the left and right now have regarding the media

Despite all the criticism recently, Paul Murray’s panel tonight is full of right wing extremists. There’s not one token lefty in sight.

Just a normal program then.

:joy:
To be fair they normally have a token lefty on there so they can berate them.

Bronwyn Bishop is on there tonight calling anyone remotely left wing a socialist criminal. They have that deranged senator Fraser Anning. They have climate change denier michale Kroger. And ofc the usual bully that is Paul Murray. He is the biggest hypocrite. He rails against the left for shutting down free speech yet he yells and carries on at anyone who doesn’t adopt his views.

Sounds like car crash TV at its best.

Sky News has been buying advertising time on the screens on Melbourne train stations. That is what was being showing - ads. It wasn’t a news service, as such. Reading part of the transcript of David Speers interview with the Victorian minister it was as if a dictator had banned a media outlet from operating. Total overreaction from Sky News to the government simply no longer accepting Sky’s advertising.

The truth:

Media commentators have mentioned that Blair Cottrell has previously been interviewed on the ABC. ABC responds:

He has also appeared on 3AW. I don’t see the problem as long as he is being challenged on his radical views and the moderator has the finger poised over the dump button should he say something that contravenes the broadcasting act.

MSNBC revealed on their breakfast program a couple of days ago that they went into a seven second delay when they knew a particular guest would probably say something beyond what was acceptable. He did, so the audio was muted. Sky News could easily do the same.
