Sky News Regional

It did better than 10 ironically.

EDIT: I lie, it didn’t. Just double checked.

Foxtel added Sky News to channel 103 a while back, there’s nothing stopping Ten allocating that number in metro areas.

I suppose the main question is if News Corp think Sky would work as an FTA product funded just on ad revenue, something being in regional areas won’t be impacting much at the moment.

Being somewhat obscure in regional areas only means you don’t have the organised pressure campaigns on advertisers being all that significant, while something on FTA in metro areas would be. If people take that stuff as a wider effort blaming Ten for carrying it, that could make them think twice.

It’s that darn Project. Bloody Waleed Aly, such a left-wing firebrand!:grin:

Was replying to another poster, not Sky.

I think Channel 10 will drop the “Regional” channel and it will most likely end up becoming available as a FAST channel on Tubi which is owned by News Corp. Makes sense in my view.

I can see it being added to Tubi but given the audience for Sky i would think it would be in addition to the broadcast, not replacing it. a good chunk of those that watch sky news regional probably are not that tech savvy and may not have fast enough internet to stream anyway

True but It’ll mean for the rest of Australia especially in the big cities they could watch Sky News for free without having to subscribe to Foxtel, Flash or Sky News itself.

Was about to say the same thing - it depends on what the priority is:
increased potential audience size, or revenue from it being locked behind a paywall

It already is a FAST channel. Sky News Now is available on Samsung TV Plus and LG Channels, and mirrors the Regional schedule except Breakfast. Adding it to Tubi would increase exposure, but it’s an already well established channel.

SkyNews.com.au subscriptions are $5 a month. It offers full HD and apps are available for mobile and TV.

Why would anyone promote this ultra right wing garbage!

Because there is an audience for it?

If they want to increase exposure, surely you get it on every platform they can, and stream on YouTube

Forgot, some like right wing propaganda/nonsense served up to them. If Paramount/10 go with this in metropolitan areas then it’s good bye from me.

You can watch 10/ Paramount and not watch Sky News, just as you are now, they aren’t mutually exclusive now and even if that happened they still wouldn’t be mutually exclusive then.

With the way pay tv is heading, these news channels will need to look elsewhere like YouTube and streaming services.

There’s already a shift towards live streaming on YouTube with the likes of news channels previouslt locked behind a paywall like Sky UK, AlJazeera, DW, France 24 etc.

As for Sky News Australia, i can only seem them doing this with their Morning and Daytime programmes live streamed to YouTube.

Yeah, it’s cheaper than having to set up your own streaming server - just leech of Google!

I would be surprised if Samsung and LG weren’t paying some sort of fee to News Corp to carry Sky News Now. As such, that combined with wanting to drive subscriptions to the website, it probably makes more financial sense to limit the distribution of Sky News Now rather than following the usual FAST model of making it widely accessible.

Agreed, it’s just the Sky News subscription feed but with a Sky News Regional watermark. Simply put, this is like the freemium version of Sky News Australia. Sky News Regional don’t have local feeds for specific regions, instead these are all just statewide feeds nationwide, so there’s likely one feed for all of Regional VIC, one for Regional NSW, one for Regional QLD, etc.

Can anybody please confirm just how many statewide feeds of SN Regional there are?

And advertising? There’s not much ads for places like Orange or Wollongong, instead you’re more likely to see informercials for KlevaRange and Super Sleeper Pro, both running 1 or 2 minute ad spots at pretty much every single ad break.

It’s really not if you cared to take a look at the schedule. It’s just like Sky News Now in that it is designed to give you a taste of the premium subscription channel. It only shows the first or last half of its flagships like Agenda and PML, pushing viewers to subscribe for more. It also has a lot of Fox Sports News content.

Sky News Breakfast is a point of difference with the Regional channel. Although I’m not sure if it serves any purpose as a localised program these days.
