Sky News Regional

It’s more of a simulcast of Sky News than it used to be. While yes it doesn’t show programs such as AM Agenda and Newsday in their entirety, it simulcasts the entire Sky After Dark lineup which IIRC it didn’t do when it launched.

Three words that do not adequately describe Sky News in any way, shape or form.

Sky News Regional on FTA still feels like you’re paying too much.

Just my opinion… but time to go

No one is linking 10 and Sky News. No one is confusing the news brands.
No one in viewer land would have a clue of any link at all

Sky News sits on channel 53, not far from Gecko, Gold, 7Two and 7mate.

Literally no one would know channel 53 is space owned by paramount, especially folks in Townsville or ballarat.

I mean it’s fine if you don’t agree with Sky’s content or message and want it off FTA. But arguing it’s doing damage to 10 News First 5pm is a bit of a stretch - especially considering it’s up 12% year on year.

In markets where Sky News runs, it triples ABC News’s share and consistently places as one of the top 2 or 3 multi channels - just behind mate and 7Two. It outrates sbs and is not bad behind 10’a main channel (around a 4.5 share to 10’s 6.5 share)

It’s the most popular multi channel on paramount’s regional multiplex by far. I’d say the financial benefits of having sky make a lot of sense

But not in the demos that Paramount is chasing - Sky’s total people share is held up by 65+.

That’s a very fair point. But also FTA’s 'median age is close to 60

Paramounts most watched network is cbs and it’s all 60+, along with 5 in UK - same deal. Maybe they are happy with older audiences.

All this news on 10 hardly skews young either. Nor does 10Bold

Oh I don’t disagree - although I’m not certain that the revenue split that Sky would want is going to make a deal appealing for Paramount. But time will tell!

I think the bigger question is what the future of Sky looks like in an era where it is having to decouple itself from Foxtel, which is almost certainly leaner and more sports-focused under DAZN.

Just go to the Seven multiplex and give them a shit tonne of money. You know you want to.

Seven didn’t let SCA carry Sky News Regional in Tasmania, Darwin, Remote Central Australia and Spencer Gulf/Broken Hill. I’m sure Seven would say no to Sky at any price, it is competition to its own news offerings.

Fair point.

But money talks.

When does the contract run out?

At the end of the month by the looks of it.

Anyone have an update if Ten Regional is continuing to carry this service past June 30?

Nothing else has been said if 10 will renew or not but in the EPG after 30th June, all the shows are still listed as normal in the guide. I guess it will be a case of wait and see and a surprise come 1st July to see if it’s still broadcasting or not.

My guess a deal has been done, i think more likely it would have been more mention about it if it hadn’t.

If that’s the case then I’m surprised 10 didn’t push for more of their own content on the channel then.

Maybe a replay of 10 News+ at midnight and 5am (yes, I know it’s also repeated on the main channel) or news pkgs/vision content.

Just happy to take the money and let Sky do their own thing.

Doubt Ten would want to muddy the delineation between them and Sky.

Remember, it took until the end of the month last year for WIN to announce the axing of Sky News Regional in the Griffith (NSW) and Mount Gambier/Riverland/Loxton (SA) markets.

Perhaps 10 are waiting until tomorrow to announce Sky News Regional will be no more?

Then I’m sure 10 would say no to Sky at any price, now that 10 is launching their new in-depth news program/offering at 6pm right after the local (metro) news.

I found this excerpt interesting…

The decision on whether to extend Sky will be a commercial one and will consider advertising revenue and the amount Sky pays the network for the spectrum to air its programming.

In regards to advertising revenue, I checked the ad breaks on Sky News Regional (via Southern NSW feed) and sure enough, almost nobody wants to advertise on SNR. It’s filled with informercials and some CSAs.

If you’re lucky enough, you may get an occasional Central West NSW ad here and there. And that’s just on the Southern NSW feed. Otherwise you’re more likely than not to run into an ad for KlevaRange or the SuperSleeper Pro. Whereas Channel 10 and its multichannels 10 Comedy, 10 Drama and Nickelodeon are getting a decent amount of advertising revenue.

So more likely than not I reckon with this considered (and the fact that 10 News+ is launching June 30) I think Sky News Regional is set to meet its end. Might also be so then Network 10 can launch Nickelodeon into NNSW.
