Ah ok cool!

You know you can just not watch it? Like don’t let it ruin your holiday.

I know the press releases frames this as something wish but it’ll just by Sky News On Win with a new title, neither ANC or SCA are gonna pump much into it.

So Sky News Regional. Not Fox News Australia or some variant on that as some have suggested Sky will be renamed?

If they were going to relaunch as Fox, I doubt they’d be having the regional announcement as the way announcing/leaking the name.

It could just be placeholder.

Of course, but I also wish the channel wasn’t available in Northern NSW (or any regional market really) for the benefit of those who live there permanently.

And yes, I know that Sky News on WIN has been more popular than the ABC News channel in some regional markets. But it should be legitimately worrying to us all that News Corp are essentially trying to build something resembling a Fox News Australia (even if not necessarily by name) given the damage that Fox News has done to US democracy in recent years.

What does this even mean?

Watching something is a choice, if people want to watch then they will and if they don’t (as I suspect most won’t) then even better.

Some truly bizarre commentary on this.

I get people don’t like Sky and their owners but to label the whole channel and wish regional viewers to be without because of a couple of prime time opion shows is bizzare.

I watch Sky News in the morning, the short time I have they have news that is short and too the point way better than any other channel during breakfast. How am I better off listening to people dribble on for 10 to 15 minutes when all I want is news

i find it more worrying trying to silence others because they don’t agree with your viewpoint.

This is a great investment for the regions, people can choose with their remote.

I’d think that it would be nice to have Sky available just so we can have a good laugh at some of what their opinion presenters say on a regular basis

SBN will stay on SCA’s multiplexes.

you’ve got Youtube and Media Watch for that!

This is so beyond bizarre to me. To want to deny millions of people a media voice with opinions and thoughts on society, politics etc - because you don’t agree with it.

Australians en masse what to consume Sky. They Vite with their remotes. Do you really want a whole country thinking left and thinking the way you do? We need both sides of the political spectrum.

So Sky News will stay on FTA in key large cities like Newcastle and Gold Coast (via WIN) Canberra and Wollongong (via SCA) but disappear from Hobart screens and In fact all of Tasmania

We don’t.

Anyway, it’s a moot point. SCA will be out of business before their affiliation deal (yet-to-be finalised, I might add) with Ten runs out.

Bullshit. Australia Voted in a conservative government. Democracy means we have right and left

Sorry to burst your bubble but media outlets should not be partisan. News media should deal in truth, political media should hold the political sphere accountable and not be beholden to vested interests or ideology.

That, however, wasn’t my point. The political spectrum is as diverse as it is flawed - reducing it to two sides or, in this case, two broadcasters is fraught in danger (and at best totally misunderstands why people think and vote the way they do).

For the record, I’m of the view that Sky can do whatever deals they want with free-to-air broadcasters. It is appropriate that Sky gets behind free-to-air TV, a medium dying faster than their target audience.

Not truth and lies or false equivalency. Sky News is not ā€˜conservative’ it is hate speech and nasty old men spewing vitriol.

I’m not sure if it will disappear, it just probably hasn’t been announced yet, it’ll probably appear on the TDT suite of channels but if it’s going to get enough viewers then SCA may put it on their suite of channels too if they can fit it in. Just like how TDT hasn’t rated a mention with any of the affiliation talk because it focuses on the wholly owned SCA stations and then the others will be dealt with afterwards.

My prediction will be though that Sky News Regional will appear on the TDT channels, if they do a deal with SCA and WIN for it.

ā€œOld men spewing vitriolā€?
How unbelievably sexist. Peta Credlin, Rita Panahi and Sharri all have their own shows.

And if you think Paul Murray is nasty then think again. He’s only nasty to COVID politicians
