We know that Magic Millions, Tour Down Under and the Cadel Evans race will be shown live on Seven. Seven should promote the rest during the next two cricket tests between Australia and South Africa, and also during the BBL.
The Sydney to Hobart started on 7Mate at 12.30pm. Just minutes ago, it began being simulcasted on Seven during the Cricketâs Lunch Break. Despite some 16 minutes to go until the race starts.
They simulcasted during the lunch break last year too.
Whatâs the point in channel 7 showing the Sydney to Hobart if they wonât even put the ending on 7plus?
Evidently it still gets an audience for the start.
Because they donât know how long itâs going to take, plus no one cares other than the start. Whoâs going to stay up until 3am to see it? And how do you propose they physically broadcast a boat race from Sydney to Hobart, outside of the port/bay/harbour of each city?
Agree that it would be very hard to film the Sydney to Hobart in its entirely for the telly. They never schedule in a block on the telly for a finish time because they never know when the first few yachts cross the finish line until well into the race. I think Seven News (and am sure other stations too) will have enough coverage during their news services of who finishes first.
Tour Down Under has published Sevenâs broadcast schedule of the 2023 event online. Due to Sevenâs coverage of Australian womenâs cricket series against Pakistan, the BBL, and horse racing, the TDU stages will be shown live on main channel, 7TWO and/or 7flix on different days, with live streaming on 7plus. Late night highlights will be on main channel.
The Schwalbe Classic criterium on January 14 has no live TV coverage (yet) but will be live streamed on TDU website and 7plus.
Major crash at Willowbank Raceway overnight at the New Year Nitro event that was broadcast on 7 (7+?)
Camera tower was obliterated, with the camera operator taken to hospital with reportedly two broken legs. Driver passed away.

Seven unveils all-star Santos Tour Down Under team
Live and free on Seven and 7plus from Sunday
In an exciting announcement for sport fans across Australia, the Seven Network has unveiled a star-studded commentary team for the highly anticipated 2023 Santos Tour Down Under.
Direct from picturesque South Australia, Sevenâs coverage will kick off on Sunday, 15 January at 12.00pm AEDT, live and free on Seven and 7plus, with resident cycling expert, Mark Beretta, and his Sunrise co-host and fellow racing enthusiast, James Tobin, leading the way across the eight-day broadcast.
This yearâs Santos Tour Down Under all-star commentary team includes crowd favourite and international âvoice of cyclingâ, Phil Liggett, who covered his 50th Tour de France in 2022, and Matthew Keenan, one of Australiaâs leading cycling broadcasters. Both will use their in-depth racing knowledge during play-by-play commentary from the panel.
Former champions of cycling Robbie McEwen, Anna Meares and Gracie Elvin will bring valuable insights to their roles as experts on the commentary panel.
Beretta will host the broadcast onsite, while Tobin will deliver the colour and excitement from the roadside daily for both the menâs and womenâs races. Olympic cyclist Scott McGrory OAM will additionally be part of the team, conducting interviews with riders.
For the first time in Santos Tour Down Under history, the full womenâs race will be broadcast nation-wide on Seven and 7plus, from Sunday 15 January, with the womenâs race returning as a Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Womenâs WorldTour event â the top level of road cycling competition.
The former cycling greats on the broadcast team will bring un-paralleled expertise and insight to viewers:
- Robbie McEwen, one of Australiaâs greatest cyclists and three-time Tour de France Green Jersey holder, will make his return to the Santos Tour Down Under commentary team, providing expert takes on the action.
- Cyclingâs golden girl, Anna Meares, who was recently named to lead the 2024 Australian Olympic team as the Chef de Mission, will add colour to the action as part of the broadcast team once again.
- Gracie Elvin, who retired from cycling in 2020, is in a unique position to bring valuable insights to the womenâs race panel, having raced with and against many of the women competing in the 2023 event.
Mark Beretta said he was thrilled to be part of Sevenâs Tour Down Under broadcast team in 2023.
âThe Santos Tour Down Under is one of the greatest sporting events in this country and we are so privileged to have the worldâs best cycling teams bring their stars to Australia for the first pro event of the year,â he said.
âWe have the perfect team combining years of broadcast and professional cycling experience, and what could be more fitting for the return of international racing at the Santos Tour Down Under?
âThe fan experience at the Santos Tour Down Under is amazing. To have the opportunity to get open access to the riders and the teams, in front of a beautiful backdrop across South Australia, is unbeatable,â Beretta said.
âThe race routes and finishes are something else, showing off this amazing region and some of Australiaâs best-kept secrets. This is one of my absolute favourite events of the year and I canât wait to saddle up with international cyclingâs greatest commentator, Phil Liggett, and our expert team for the best Tour Down Under ever.â
Sevenâs coverage begins on Sunday, 15 January, with the Womenâs Stage One race, from Glenelg to Aldinga. Each stage of both the menâs and womenâs races will be broadcast daily, with catch-ups available on 7plus.
Fans can also tune into the 7plus Santos Tour Down Under Hub for extra highlights and replays from the event.

The remaining eight races of the Magic Millions meeting will now be held on Thursday, January 19.
With 7TWO showing the cycling on Thursday, could Magic Millions be shown on main channel and/or 7mate instead?
Well, the decision of when the day can be rescheduled also takes into account FTA scheduling so I would say it will be on the main channel.
Disappointed with poor coverage of an iconic event in SD on 7Two. The TDU deserves better coverage
