FAST5 Netball leaps onto 7plus

Aussies set to shine in Christchurch this weekend

The Seven Network is giving Australian netball fans the chance to get behind our much-loved Aussie netballers, when the FAST5 Netball World Series kicks off this Saturday, 5 November at 10.00am, live, free and in HD* on 7plus.

The FAST5 Netball World Series will see the world’s top six ranked teams play netball’s five-a-side condensed game, across Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 November at Christchurch Arena in New Zealand.

With a 10-strong Australian team headlined by Australian Diamonds Sophie Garbin and Sophie Dwyer, the green and gold will return to the Fast5 court for the first time in four years since placing third in the 2018 competition.

Seven Melbourne Managing Director and Head of Network Sport, Lewis Martin, said: “We are thrilled to extend our women’s sports offering to include the FAST5 Netball world Series on Seven, Your Home of Sport.

“During the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, we saw just how much Australians love getting behind our netballers and we cannot wait to deliver the excitement and passion from the fast-paced competition, straight into living rooms across the country.

“All the action is just one click away on your smart TV, mobile, tablet or computer. You do not want to miss a minute, right here on Seven and 7plus.”

Netball New Zealand Chief Commercial Officer, David Cooper said he was thrilled that the Seven Network has come onboard to deliver FAST5 Netball action to Aussie fans.

“FAST5 Netball World Series is a global sporting event and having Australian fans being able to view the tournament live, free and on 7plus is just brilliant news”, he said.

Netball Australia CEO Kelly Ryan welcomed the announcement.

“FAST5 is a dynamic variation of our game, and it is fantastic this fast and exciting format will be broadcast live and free to fans right across Australia,” she said.

Seven’s broadcast of the Fast5 Netball World Series will begin at 10.00am AEDT on Saturday 5 November, live, free and in HD* on 7plus.

Fast 5 netball was previously broadcasted by 9 on Gem/Go. So technically this is a backwards step since it’s only on 7+

I am a bit surprised that FAST5 pops up on 7plus, as I think it is included in Foxtel’s current rights contract with Netball Australia, which includes tournaments like Constellation Cup and Quad Series.

Foxtel will need to act fast to secure the rights to next year’s Netball World Cup in South Africa, if it hasn’t done so already.

Seven and 7plus hits the surf

Seven extends partnership with World Surf League

Australian surfing fans can continue riding the wave on the Seven Network, with Seven extending its partnership as the free-to-air broadcaster of the World Surf League (WSL) to cover surfing’s biggest and most iconic events.

Following the sport’s triumphant debut at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and an exhilarating 2022 season across the screens of Seven, fans can now view every WSL live contest and highlights show of the 2023 season on Seven and 7plus.

Kickstarting with the iconic Billabong Pro Pipeline in Hawaii in January 2023 – famously won by Kelly Slater this year – WSL live coverage on 7plus will include all stops of the world’s premier surfing competition, the WSL Championship Tour, along with the Challenger Series, the Rip Curl WSL Finals and Australian-based Qualifying Series events.

The partnership will also see Seven broadcast the Rip Curl WSL Finals on free-to-air television, as well as 11 hour-long highlights of Championship Tour events.

Managing Director Seven Melbourne and Head of Network Sport, Lewis Martin, said: “Surfing is a sport that draws a lot of passion from people all over the world, particularly Australians, so we’re stoked to continue our partnership with the World Surf League.

“As we sit at the precipice of a new era of surfing, it’s an incredibly exciting time for the much-loved sport. The nation’s golden girl of the waves, Steph Gilmore, is showing no signs of slowing down after claiming her eighth world title this year, and who could forget the greatest of all time, Kelly Slater, making history in the Pipeline last year?

“With the future of Aussie surfing in the hands of newcomers Molly Picklum, Isabella Nichols and Ethan Ewing, 2023 is set to deliver more stories and moments that you cannot miss, and you can catch it all right here on Seven and 7plus,” he said.

WSL APAC President, Andrew Stark, said: “We are thrilled to continue our partnership with the Seven Network and 7plus in Australia and look forward to sharing our amazing WSL events and stories through the Seven Network. Seven are a true leader in Australian sports broadcasting and we are genuinely appreciative of our partnership and look forward to continuing the momentum into the future”.

Ahead of the 2023 event schedule, Seven has viewers covered for the remainder of 2022 with the next stop of the Challenger Series, the Haleiwa Challenger, available to stream live and on demand on 7plus from 26 November.

Beginning tomorrow night at 7.00pm AEDT on 7mate, with the highly anticipated Eliminator clash between Brisbane Heat and Hobart Hurricanes, Seven has cricket fans covered across all three WBBL Finals matches, including the all-important WBBL Final, hosted by the Sydney Sixers, this Saturday at 5.00pm AEDT on 7mate.

Following Thursday night’s Challenger match at 7.00pm AEDT on 7mate, hosted by the Adelaide Strikers at Karen Rolton Oval, cricket fans can tune into The Front Bar: Cricket Edition, when Mick, Sam and Andy will be joined by former Australian batsman and Seven commentator Matthew Hayden, alongside iconic West Indies fast bowler, Sir Curtly Ambrose, to launch the 2022-23 summer of cricket on Seven.

Following an action-packed Finals Series, Seven is set to broadcast the jewel in the crown of the AFL Women’s competition, the 2022 AFLW Grand Final, this Sunday at 1.30pm AEDT on Channel 7 and 7plus.

For the fourth time since the competition’s inception in 2017, the Brisbane Lions will once again line up on AFLW Grand Final day, this time hosting Daisy Pearce’s Melbourne Demons at Brighton Homes Arena in Queensland.

On Grand Final Day, footy fans will be treated to expert insight and analysis from Seven’s esteemed group of AFLW callers and hosts, including 2022 AFLW Premiership Cup Ambassador Abbey Holmes, former Geelong Cats captain Melissa Hickey, Jason Bennett, Jo Wotton, Sam Lane and Nat Edwards.

Managing Director Seven Melbourne and Head of Network Sport, Lewis Martin, said: “We’ve already kick-started a cracking summer of cricket, but it cranks up a notch this week. We’ve landed at the most exciting point in the world’s #1 women’s T20 competition, with the 2022 Women’s Big Bash League finals series set to be decided over three epic contests.

“Fans also won’t want to miss the return of The Front Bar: Cricket Edition, as the countdown begins to the exhilarating action of the Big Bash League and a monumental Test summer.

“In the AFLW, all roads lead to Sunday’s Grand Final, headlined by the game’s very best, the Brisbane Lions – with reigning league Best and Fairest winner, Emily Bates – and Daisy Pearce’s Demons. Will Melbourne finally reach the Premiership success they’ve come so close to, or will the Lions claim the ultimate prize for a second time?,” he said.

“Once again, we have assembled a talented, experienced, and highly respected AFLW on-air line-up, including current and former players, who know the game better than anyone else.

“As we embark on an electrifying week of women’s footy and cricket finals, the only place you can see every unmissable moment, live and free is on Seven, Your Home of Sport.”

Because it is usually this time each year that a formal dinner will be held at the MCG for Sport Australia Hall of Fame. The last such function was held in 2019.

Sydney Hobart Yacht Race sets sail

Iconic race returns to 7mate and 7plus on Boxing Day

The Seven Network’s summer sport offering is getting hotter, with the 77th running of the iconic Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race setting sail, live and free, this Boxing Day on 7mate and 7plus.

Complete with 120 boats, including four 100-foot Maxis, the historic race will host an international fleet as they sail from Sydney to Hobart for the first time since 2019.

Hosted by acclaimed Seven sports broadcaster Mark Beretta, Seven’s Sydney Hobart commentary team will be bolstered by Peter Shipway, a veteran who boasts more than 30 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Races; Jimmy Spithill, an America’s Cup and Sydney Hobart Line Honours winning skipper; and Seven’s own Emma Freedman, who will broadcast live from Super Maxi, Andoo Comanche.

Managing Director Seven Melbourne and Head of Network Sport, Lewis Martin said: “We are thrilled to once again broadcast the historic Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, on a day packed with wall-to-wall Australian sport.

“With a live and free broadcast of the entire event on 7mate and 7plus, as well as live coverage during the lunch break of the iconic Boxing Day test between Australia and South Africa, before a BBL double header, Seven is the only place to see it all this summer.”

I highly doubt they’ll follow the last boat into Hobart.

The race was held last year with Black Jack taking line honours.

Yes but the internationals are back for the first time, yeah?

No, the internationals were involved in last year’s race as well. Black Jack is from Monaco, while SHK Scallywag 100 (which came third in line honours) is from Hong Kong.

I think 7 and 7plus should start advertising the fact that they have all these events + whatever else they have next year that we don’t even know about.
