Next Monday Seven will show the NFL clash between the Dallas Cowboys and Seattle Seahawks live from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, at 8.30am AEDT, on the main channel, with Sunrise and The Morning Show both rested for Christmas Day. It will be the first time since this year’s Super Bowl that an NFL match airs on the main channel.

That’s actually a clever piece of scheduling - it will attract those who want some sport to watch on Christmas Day and probably will do better than whatever Christmas filler programming they would have aired

Yeah, good move.

When was the last time a regular season NFL match was broadcast on a main channel? I can’t think of any.

Haha. I was just about to ask the same thing. You beat me to it.

I also can’t think of a time when a regular NFL game aired on a main channel. Super Bowl, yes, definitely. Regular game, no?

Smart move, I agree. As Christmas Day is usually filled with Carols repeats and old movies. Adds some variety.

ABC showed weekly game highlights in the early 1990s, hosted by Don Lane. There are a couple of clips on YouTube of Don doing a local gridiron roundup in-between quarters.

7’s tennis promos, and now Winter Olympics, say across the screens of 7, even “across every screen” but the 7Two logo is not featured.
Any clues why?

Is 7Two used for tennis main or overflow?

Tennis: 7Two and 7mate have swapped ‘roles’ in that 7mate will be the secondary channel while 7Two will only be used for ‘overflow’ requirements (eg; carrying the ‘main coverage’ during the 1st week of the Australian Open whilst Seven News is on)

Winter Olympics: It seems like only Seven and 7mate will be used

For NFL fans, there will only be 2 games next week on New Year’s Day. The league has scheduled all games to kick off at either 1PM or 4:25PM meaning no Sunday Night game (the game that kicks off at lunchtime over here).

Next weekend is the start of the NFL playoffs, the schedule appears to be as follows with all games on 73

SUNDAY MORNING (8:35 ADST): Tennessee @ Kansas City (ESPN telecast)
SUNDAY AFTERNOON (12:15 ADST): Atlanta @ LA Rams (NBC telecast)
MONDAY MORNING: (5:00 ADST): Buffalo @ Jacksonville (CBS telecast)
MONDAY MORNING: (8:40 ADST): Carolina @ New Orleans (FOX telecast)

How it works after that is the highest ranked winner plays the second seed (NFC: Minnesota/AFC: Pittsburgh) a week later, and the lowest ranked winner plays the top seed (NFC: Philadelphia/AFC: New England). This season the NFC has the later kickoff on Conference Championship day (22/1 in Australia), the kickoff times for the conference championship games are 10:40 ADST for the NFC and 6:05 ADST for the AFC, with Superbowl LII from Minneapolis scheduled to start at 10:30 ADST on the 5th of February (4th in the US).

7 didn’t show these 6 teams during the regular season:
Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars, Tennessee Titans, Chicago Bears, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and San Francisco 49ers.
How do 7 manage to not show 2 teams over an entire season that made playoffs?

ESPN showed every team at least once during the course of the season

Is that because every team is guaranteed a Thu/Sun/Mon night game? Don’t give me Redzone as covering a game live.

Channel Seven has no obligation to show every team.
