Reminds me a bit of 10’s 2014 (give or take) presentation package

Seven also broadcast the opening of CBS’s new Tracker.

Interesting… do they even have the rights? According to Wikipedia internationally the show will be on Disney+.

Yeah I think tv.cynic means that 7 weren’t quick enough to switch away before the first few seconds (i’m assuming) was shown from the dirty feed from CBS.

Seven came back from an ad break and we basically got a shot of Las Vegas with the commentators saying “Trackers starts now on CBS” and then about 10 seconds of the show before they cut to Surveillance Oz.

I reckon the ad break may have been extended at the last minute, as at least in NSW, they show a series of ads, a 1 minute sneak peek of The 1% Club, then back to ads for a minute or so. Know that does happen but I thought it was a bit unusual.

Totally wasn’t watching the Super Bowl because of Swift. Was waiting for The Chase UK😏

Super Bowl Monday a touchdown for Seven

Reaches 2.7 million, up 43% on 2023. Live streaming soars 128%

The Seven Network’s massive live and free broadcast of the Super Bowl LVIII was a runaway hit with viewers yesterday, as the Kansas City Chiefs’ thrilling overtime victory over the San Francisco 49ers reached 2.7 million Australians across Seven and 7plus. The game itself reached 2.55 million.

The most anticipated Super Bowl in recent memory, both on and off the field with the arrival of Chiefs Tight End Travis Kelce’s megastar girlfriend Taylor Swift, had an average national total TV audience of 800,000, up 67% on last year.

BVOD viewing alone soared. The live stream on 7plus delivered 128% growth year-on-year with 37.7 million minutes streamed.

Managing Director Seven Melbourne and Head of Network Sport, Lewis Martin, said: “The biggest stars on the biggest stage, in front of record audiences: Super Bowl LVIII on Seven and 7plus had it all.

“Super Bowl is one of the world’s greatest sporting spectacles, and while we think our American friends can take a leaf or two out of our AFL broadcasting playbook, Seven’s NFL coverage only keeps growing, smashing last year’s already strong audience record across broadcast and digital.”

Seven West Media Chief Digital Officer, Gereurd Roberts, said: “The Super Bowl is yet another excellent example of 7plus’ power to bring mass cultural moments – from around the world – live and free to all Australians.

“This year’s massive numbers are a testament to both Australians’ appetite for digital sport content delivered where and how they want it, and the power of a market-leading user experience that takes them inside the heart-racing moments shaping the global sport and culture conversation.”

That’s probably the highest rated SuperBowl on 7?

Surely people were watching because of Taylor Swift’s presence more than anything. I know the NFL’s presence here continues to grow but I don’t think the number goes up that much year over year if she wasn’t in a high profile relationship with one of the star players from one of the teams competing.

Just a thought after reading about 9 getting the Melbourne Cup… and the Olympics, and the Tennis.

Bruce has no major sport that he is involved in left on 7. When he does retire, his last broadcast will no doubt have to be on some random saturday horse race. Unless they get him back to call an AFL GF.

I seem to recall an interview with him when he gave up calling the Aus Open where he said that Horse Racing was going to be the last thing he gave up doing (rights dependant). With the Melbourne Cup at 9 now, you’d have to think the Cox Plate one year would be his likely swansong.

Calling one more GF would be a horrible idea (I remember how long it took him to get back into the groove of things when 7 regained the AFL in '07), but could easily have him in the pregame in some capacity when he decides to fully retire.

7plus will stream the 2024 Australian Open Squash live from Sydney on March 22-24. The key matches will be held on a temporary glass court in the middle of Martin Place in Sydney CBD.

Wonder if we’ll ever see Footy Flashbacks or the like again? Abruptly ended pre-COVID IIRC. At last check 3AW’s Jane Holmes said a few years back Seven told her “they might consider airing some special episodes again in time for the finals” but that never happened. I have a feeling 2016 or 2017 might’ve been the last year.

Used to air before Sunday Football and in its earlier years from the late 2000s after Game Day on Sunday mornings. Was presented by Neil Kearney and in later years had a show sponsor such as “Brut” and “Just For Men” and hosted by rotating 7AFL talent. These caps from 2013 and 2014 I believe, with the host segments at the start new film spliced into re-run episodes or older program material/archival footage, where they’d often then say “stay around now for today’s Sunday footy match between xxx vs xxx”. They’d also also use the 2004-2011 watermark.

Anyone know where this room is? Assume BCM Docklands, guessing the network archives department before that moved to Queensland AFAIK.

Autumn Racing Carnival heats up on Seven

All Star Mile, Golden Slipper, The Championships and much more

Some of Australian racing’s most coveted prizes are on the line over the coming weeks as the Autumn Racing Carnival heats up on the Seven Network, including the $4 million All-Star Mile at Caulfield and the 68th running of the $5 million Golden Slipper at Rosehill Gardens.

The Autumn Racing Carnival kicks up a gear this Saturday with a huge day of thoroughbred racing from All Star Mile Day at Caulfield and Ladies Day at Rosehill, live and free from 12pm AEDT on Seven and 7plus.

At Caulfield, defending champion Mr Brightside and Ciaron Maher’s mighty mare Pride Of Jenni are set to renew their rivalry in the $4 million All Star Mile at Caulfield, while viewers will have the chance to see parts of the Caulfield redevelopment for the very first time on Seven’s live and free broadcast.

At Rosehill, the fillies and mares will battle it out in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic on Chandon Ladies Day, where Champion trainer Chris Waller is striving for back-to-back wins with top weight and current favourite Zougotcha after taking out the race last year with Espiona.

Australia’s pre-eminent sports broadcaster Bruce McAvaney will lead racing’s undisputed #1 commentary team for Saturday’s epic day of racing, alongside Jason Richardson, Emma Freedman, Lizzie Jelfs and Kate Waterhouse.

Over the next six Saturdays, fans will enjoy the very best racing from the Sydney and Melbourne’s Autumn Carnivals live and free on Seven and 7plus, with the highlights including:

  • Rosehill Golden Slipper Day, the world’s richest race for two-year-olds and one of five Group 1 races at Rosehill Gardens on 23 March

  • The $3 million Australian Cup, the finale to Flemington’s Racing Spectacular, at Flemington on 30 March

  • The Championships, featuring eight Group 1 races across two action-packed Saturdays at Randwick on 6 April and 13 April

Managing Director Seven Melbourne and Head of Network Sport, Lewis Martin, said: “This Autumn, Seven will bring fans a spectacular feast of thoroughbred racing, elegance and fashion direct from Sydney and Melbourne.

“With the live and free coverage once again fronted by racing’s best commentary team led by the peerless Bruce McAvaney, there’s no other place racing fans will want to be than right here on Seven, Your Home of Racing.”

Mega Easter of sport on Seven

AFL, Autumn Racing Carnival, World Surf League, Stawell Gift, VFL, SANFL and WAFL, all live and free on Seven and 7plus

Sport fans are set for an epic Easter of sport on the Seven Network, starting tonight and featuring five straight days of unmissable live and free action on Seven and 7plus.

The Easter extravaganza kicks off when the Brisbane Lions host Collingwood tonight for Thursday Night Footy at the Gabba, broadcast live and free on Channel 7 and 7mate from 7.00pm AEDT.

On Friday, AFL fans will be in for an Easter treat when North Melbourne take on Carlton in the annual Good Friday SuperClash at Marvel Stadium from 4.00pm AEDT, during Seven’s 67th annual Good Friday Appeal broadcast, which continues through until midnight on Channel 7 Melbourne and 7plus nationally.

As the Good Friday Appeal and Seven join forces on a special day, Seven’s Dale Thomas will be joined by 2022 NAB Auskicker of the Year and fan favourite, nine-year-old Archie Stockdale, in field commentary for this year’s SuperClash match.

Rounding out the weekend’s feast of football are:

  • Port Adelaide v Melbourne at Adelaide Oval on Saturday from 7.00pm AEDT on Channel 7 and 7mate

  • The legendary Easter Monday clash between Hawthorn and Geelong at the MCG from 2.30pm AEDT on Channel 7 and 7mate

Footy fans in NSW, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia can also watch every game involving teams from their home states live and free on Seven.

In a boost for state league footy fans, the opening rounds of SANFL, WAFL and Round Two of the VFL will be streamed live and free on 7plus, starting with the SANFL’s North Adelaide v Centrals clash, from 1.30pm ACDT on Friday. WAFL fans will be treated to a Grand Final re-match between Peel Thunder and East Fremantle at 1.30pm AWST on Saturday, before Sandringham host Essendon in the VFL from 2.00pm AEDT on Sunday afternoon.

The surfing action continues this week live and free on 7plus for the remainder of the World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour’s Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach, where Aussie superstar Ethan Ewing is still in contention to win back-to-back Bells titles, alongside 52- year-old, 11-time World Champion Kelly Slater who claimed his first Bells victory 30 years prior.

In what would be an incredible story for Australia, Barwon Heads local high school student Ellie Harrison will also hit the waves again in the coming days and she looks to take out the title in her first ever WSL Championship Tour event, in her own backyard.

At Rosehill Gardens, Seven’s #1 horse racing team will also deliver all the action live from Tancred Stakes Day which includes a fascinating edition of the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes where New Zealand wonder filly Orchestral will make her Australian debut with champion jockey James McDonald.

Australian filly Zardozi will be looking to spoil the party with Tom Marquand to combine with the last-start winner for trainer James Cummings.

A pivotal day on the racing calendar, Australian Cup Day presents a fitting finale to the Flemington Racing Spectacular, headlined by the $3 million Group 1 TAB Australian Cup feature race.

Mr Brightside and Pride Of Jenni will battle again, in what looks likely to be another thrilling contest in their rivalry. But it’s more than just a two-horse race with Australian Cup defending champion Cascadian and Champions Stakes winner Atishu set to add some class in the time-honoured feature.

In the lead-up to the Hawthorn v Geelong AFL blockbuster on Easter Monday, Seven will bring fans the 142nd running of Australia’s richest footrace, the Stawell Gift, from 11.30am AEDT on Channel 7 and 7plus. Fans can also tune into the prior two days of the Stawell Gift on Saturday, 30 March and Sunday, 31 March on 7plus.

Managing Director Seven Melbourne and Head of Network Sport, Lewis Martin, said: “There is something for absolutely everyone on the Seven Network this Easter.

“With the footy blockbuster on Thursday night, three highly anticipated rounds of state league footy, Sydney and Melbourne Autumn racing, the world’s best surfers at Bells Beach and the iconic Stawell Gift, these five days are a dream for sports lovers.

Jason Richardson (1993 winner) again hosting the 2024 Stawell Gift.

Tamsyn Manou and Dave Culbert also have returned. I wonder if Nine gave them permission, assuming they’re part of Nine’s Olympics this year.

Bruce McAvaney did a v/o opener.

Big rain event forecast for later across Vic today and tomorrow.
