Seven News (Regional Qld)

a Windows 11 taskbar is visible on the 1st screen (on the left) of the 7NEWS desk. Lol.

Maybe it’s some elaborate embedded marketing  /s

The Regional QLD bulletins are not on air this week - back next week.

I know regional areas always get shafted over holiday breaks, but could a single statewide edition like Nine News Local be a good compromise?

Would surely be better than nothing, but easier than making all the separate editions?

They trialled it a few years ago around 2014 IIRC - was a video on @TV.Cynic’s old YouTube page where they did combined bulletins for various regions (i.e. Sunshine Coast and Wide Bay had one bulletin, etc), so it’s not like they haven’t done it before.

It’s all about saving money.

We lost staff in several markets two weeks ago, they came to work at 0900 and were out the door by 1000.

We suspect with the merger of Seven West Media and SCA things will get even worse.

While I don’t doubt there is a high risk of this, I assume by “we” you mean SCA and/or SWM staff?

I think largely, it’s an exit strategy for the Stokes Family - it saddles a new packhorse with dead weight and gives the family a way to back away from the almost inevitable failure. Maybe also an indication that there isn’t much interest for Ryan to quite follow in his father’s footsteps in the media space and a shifting focus to running one of the largest Cat dealers in the world as well has having a stranglehold on the Concrete and Hire markets (that said, I’ve heard Westrac have mining contracts that deliver greater financial performance than SGH’s share of SWM’s performance)

The money saving will come as a result of realising that merging two largely legacy media companies is going to result in the need to cut the cloth more economically.

By “we” I mean SWM (7 Qld)

FYI

There will be a one minute tribute to Rob Brough at the end of all 7 News Regional news bulletins tonight (Dec 29th)

Nathan Spurling presenting solo. Usually when Jo is away, they give him a co-host.

Rob Brough “officially” farewelled at the end of the bulletin tonight, after 15 months off air. Quite brief with a few YouTube highlights for the closer. I guess that they feel more confident (feel they have no choice) with letting Nathan solo now that Rob isn’t coming back.

Unless I’ve missed something, is this the first official confirmation we’ve had that he has left his position?

So he’s decided to use up all his leave since you can’t take it with you. Oh well, he’s gone out on his terms.. Fare thee well Mr Brough.

7News Regional Qld iirc trialled a “7News Queensland” branded combined regional bulletin for all regions some years ago on Christmas Day and Boxing Day with both Rob and Jo dual anchoring before Rob went on his regular Chtistmas holiday leave when he was with the network. I’d assume the Queensland statewide bulletins out of STQ Maroochydore were pre-recorded as they didnt have the “Live from the Sunshine Coast” v/o.

Thoughts on the closer year in review music bed? Personally wasn’t a fan. We could have used something with the actual theme melody in it at least.

I step outside for sixteen months, and this is what happens?!
