Rob Brough made the right decision to spend time with his family while he could.
Sending condolences to the Brough family at this sad time
Is Emily Steinhardt still there?
I’ve always thought he was really good but he never seems to take-off? Hope he’s loving it up there.
Emily left late last year, and is now a media and publics affairs officer for the Queensland Police
Emily is based at Maroochydore and paid us a visit for a couple of weeks back.
According to their Facebook post:
The 7NEWS Sunshine Coast offices have been evacuated after a suspected battery fire in the office. All regional stations will receive a full hour of Brisbane news but normal coverage will be back on Thursday.
Yep, I suspected something was up when at 4.24pm, 4 fire trucks were listed as onsite aat 7QLD as per QLD Fire website.
Edit - now listed as 6 fire trucks onsite. More serious than it reports…
Does the Brisbane studios have a second studio they could use (in the case the SC studios are unable to be used) ?
Probably not just a case of turning on a different studio though, need to staff it and need a control room etc. Maybe if they had time to plan they could but not in an emergency.
If the facilities burnt down they could, but for one bulletin for one night, it’s not worth the hastle.
Maybe 7QLD learned from what happened a NBN TV and decided a fire was a better option than announcing a closure?
No, one and only in 2026.
No access to the building until mid-morning today (4/06/'26)
The entire building needs to be vented and checks completed to ensure the servers are all working properly.
We are hoping to get bulletins on air tonight.
Fire appears to be the result of fault in UPS batteries.
Hopefully all the sets are fine, IIRC Maroochy has the green screen backup studio and the main set
No fire damage, just lots of smoke.
What is “IIRC Maroochy?”
If I recall correctly the Maroochydore studios
