Nine News Darwin was presented from a shoebox but promos were shot on the main Brisbane set, not unheard of.
And likewise the North Coast bulletin for 7NSW. Regional WA is also live but it’s the only one coming out of that studio anyway.
Uncertain if WIN have a live edition in each state?
I know they used to before they all moved to the Gong, but not sure now.
All of WIN’s are prerecorded.
I thought Wollongong was LIVE since that’s WIN’s main hometown (and their original station).
No sadly it’s not. Hasn’t been for years. I can’t find the Illawarra Mercery article but it was over 10 years ago.
WIN piece all their bulletins together as a playlist - so they slam through reading intro after intro and insert the story later - results in a lot more errors, but means they don’t need to start recording bulletins at 10am to finish all of them in time.
That means in theory some stories could be recorded very close to live and be inserted in multiple markets for covering late breaking stores - but it’s WIN so that doesn’t happen, but it’s a theoretical benefit of that approach compared to Seven’s of doing full pre-records.
I think Illawarra was pre recorded after Canberra shifted to Wollongong in 2013 but as you say I think all the bulletins are pre recorded now.
Thank God. Almost had a panic attack for the last 24 hours
Would’ve thought that Seven would’ve coughed up the $$ to put a large LED screen covering the whole background at the 7QLD Maroochydore studios instead of the small screen behind Jo (and Nathan). Also, the large LED would displaying the same animated 7news background as the metro bulletins.
A larger screen would mess with the way they prerecord. Many generic stories are recorded once and inserted into multiple bulletins.
That is incorrect.
If a “generic” or “traveller” story is in 5 different markets it is recorded 5 times. Every segment is recorded in full for each market. It has been like this for quite some time.
if it’s a generic story use a generic background.
Agree, if story is “generic” just use the generic 7News animation in the background.
The larger screen can also use the same “Breaking News” graphics and/or “Live” shots in the background behind the presenters for the live broadcast Sunshine Coast bulletin.
It’s not that simple.
The vision on the rear screen is on a hard drive and is controlled with a hand held remote by the floor manager.
As segemnts for all pre-recorded markets are recorded with no stops, changing the vision on the rear screen would mean scrolling back and forth through a menu and fast fowarding etc. If the screen background is not ready when it’s time to come back to the desk when the generic story is finished, the segemant would have to be redone from the start.
Maybe just time they updated their ancient tech then?
I agree, however despite 7Qld bulletins winning ratings in all 7 regions Mon.- Fri. we have to rely on “hand me down” gear once the metro stations update their sets. For example, the camera pedestals used in the news studio in Maroocydore are ex HSV and are probably about 40 years old. They still have stickers with the old red “circle 7” logos on them!
It’s been like this for years and I can’t imagine things will change in the near future.
The TV’s probably have some kind of HDMI interface as well most TV’s do so they could control the images in a much easier way even connecting it to a laptop over HDMI or similar if they wanted to.
