Jo is back this week which means solo reads again for the Sunshine Coast. With Nathan Spurling now on leave, Ned Balme co-anchoring elsewhere and a separate sport presenter is brought in.
The “separate sport reporter brought in” is Luke McGarry, he’s been with 7 Maroocydore for over 10 years and is the regular standin for Nathan.
It’s more of a comment on the format - when Nathan is there he does news and sport, but when he is away they bring in two people to replace him
McGarry has been the 7Queensland Sports reporter across Sunshine Coast and Wide Bay regions and backup Sports presenter for all Queensland regional bulletins for Nathan for the past decade.
As seen on 7NEWS Townsville last night.
Charters Towers stands out in this graphic due to the lack of temperature information.
This was common on regional television when I was a child IIRC.
Ayr, is that near Townsville?
Hope everything is all good with Rob Brough. He must be approaching 6 months off air now?
This may potentially be unrelated to his off-air time from 7News, but Rob Brough has recently been busy producing and creating a short film for a local Sunshine Coast Rugby League organisation.
He’s also still coaching one of the female teams at the Kawana Junior Rugby League Club according to social media.
Check Rob’s YouTube page, he’s an accomplished cameraman and editor.
Some of his videos that feature his family are particularly touching.
Local news with a double header tonight with Emily Steinhardt and Nathan Spurling. Nate also doing sport. Seems to be statewide as well incl Sunshine Coast that usually has a solo presentation.
I’d say it’s safe to assume that Rob Brough has quietly resigned from STQ?
So the sport guy is part of the double header?
Never seen the woman before. Who is she?
She’s the Assistant Supervising Producer I understand. Ex-WIN.
The “woman” is Emily Steinhardt, she’s been reading when Jo Desmond is not available for over a year.
You assume wrong, Rob has not resigned from 7Qld.
This is not the first time that Nathan and Emily have read the Sunshine Coast bulletin.
Well he hasn’t been on air since August last year
He might have enough long service leave built up to take a long break?
