Seven News (Regional Qld)

Should Seven keep inserted regional advertising switched on in Mount Isa if they purchase it from SCA?
  • Yes, they absolutely should, local advertisers need it.
  • No, these days it’s all about focusing on capital cities.

The reason for this debate is that mount isa used to get a local news bulletin from ITQ in the 1980s and 1990s and it stopped sometime in the 2000s.

What on earth happened to this thread…

Looks like they are continuing the discussion from the locked potential sale thread, since they can’t speculate there anymore - which raises the question of what any of this discussion has to do with Seven’s existing operations in QLD?

Has nothing to do with this thread. Even “the possibility” of a Mt Isa bulletin is absolutely ridiculous

Agree - it’s just clogging up threads with useless speculation. I presumed some users would’ve seen a whole bunch of new posts, and though that Rob Brough was back.

Mt Isa barely had a bulletin back in it’s ITQ8 heyday before being sold to QQQ. It will never happen.
There used to be a QQQ bulletin coming out of Townsville which was carried across the whole QQQ service area including Mt Isa and Alice Springs and also on TND in Darwin which was axed in the early 2000s. It was not specifically produced just for Mt Isa only.

Won’t happen.

Yes. It was a 5 minute bulletin each day. Dunno why people think a city of about 19,000 people deserves its own 30 minute bulletin. Not even ABC, SCA and Resonate Radio can find enough material for their bulletins so they carry across multiple towns/areas.

Also it’s highly questionable if the former ITQ broadcast area would get updates solely for their patch.

Not to mention, ABIQ6 Mt Isa had a 6.55pm five minute Regional News bulletin from the 70s to the mid 80s too, albeit read from Townsville which was screened all points west of Townsville separate to the ABTQ3 bulletin for Townsville and ABNQ9 Cairns bulletin, all produced and switched out of Townsville until it closed down owing to budget cuts. Such a very long time ago now.

Can we redirect conversation back to Seven Queensland (STQ)?

I mean it is discussing the (unlikely) possibility of a 7 local news bulletin in Queensland, so probably suitable to be here?

Meanwhile if anything about the current bulletin crops up, bring it up as well.

I was implying to that because mount isa is part of the Townsville trade zone as mount isa mines supplies material to Townsville refineries. It made me think that maybe an option is for mount isa stories to be absorbed in the Townsville 7 news bulletin. I’m not saying it may happen but its an option 7 could consider.

We have seen all networks are looking to reduce costs unless required to provide something under legislative requirements. Seven is not amune to that even as the top national network, hence why the acquisition of Prime has not seen increased news for key markets including Newcastle and Wollongong, let alone the 5 cent markets like Mt Isa.

And it’s no wonder why these markets have missed out on a bulletin. (NOTE: These are the former PRIME7 markets)

SWM has no liquid money atm and are saddled with too much debt to make more acquisitions. Makes more sense for them to take affiliate fees for now than to take on more debt and operational costs.

This thread is about STQ, the station that covers the coastal Regional QLD TV licence.

It would be suitable in the Seven & Ten News (SCA) thread where Mt Isa is covered by 7 Central.

Agree.

Now how…about we…get this…thread…back on…track

I mean it just says Seven News (Regional Qld). If there’s discussions to be had that aren’t distracting from something else, what’s the issue?

We can explain it to you, but we can’t understand it for you :man_facepalming:
