How many main news presenters have already gone on hols
Rick and Sue still working
Basil had gone on hols back jan1 to host Holman Cup
Mark Ferguson, Mel McLaughlin and David Brown were still presenting here in Sydney tonight. Iâd imagine that this will probably be their last week (well, maybe one more for Fergo if Seven have him on right up until Christmas like last year) for the year before going on holidays.
Weekend sports presenter Jim Wilson finished up for the year on December 1, but thatâs about it I think.
Speaking of Rick and Sue, isnât it almost the time they break the world record of the longest serving news presenters (partnership) in the world? If so, would that continue to give Nine grief in Perth, which is undoubtedly their weakest market?
And on a another note, just like @SydneyCityTV said about Seven Sydney and Nine Sydney, Nine News Perth has suffered a bit of an identity crisis in recent years presenter-wise. For example,
Seven News Perth
Rick Ardon and Susannah Carr, Dennis Cometti, Jeff Newman (started in 1991 but was with TVW since 1960s) (1985-2000)
Rick Ardon and Susannah Carr, Basil Zempilas, Jeff Newman (2001-2008)
Rick Ardon and Susannah Carr, Basil Zempilas, Natalia Cooper (2009-2012)
Rick Ardon and Susannah Carr, Basil Zempilas, Angela Tsun (2013-2015)
Rick Ardon and Susannah Carr, Basil Zempilas, Samantha Jolly (2015-present)
In Contrast at Nine Perth
Greg Pearce and Anna Conti (1985)
Peter Waltham and Anna Conti (1986-1989)
Peter Waltham and Christine Parker (1990)
Liam Bartlett and Mikayla Turner (1991-1992)
Liam Bartlett and Tina Alteri (1993-1994)
Terry Willesee and Tina Alteri (1995-1998)
Peter Holland and Tina Alteri, Michael Thomson, Tod Johnston (1998-2003)
Dixie Marshall and Sonia Vinci, Dennis Cometti, Natalia Cooper (2003-2006)
Dixie Marshall and Greg Pearce, Michael Thomson, Natalia Cooper (2006-2008)
Dixie Marshall and Greg Pearce, Michael Thomson, Angela Tsun (2009-2011)
Greg Pearce, Mark Readings, Angela Tsun (2011-2012)
Tim McMillan, Michael Thomson, Sally Ayhan (2012-2013)
Tim McMillan and Libby Stone, Michael Thomson, Sally Ayhan (2014)
Tim McMillan and Emmy Kubainski, Michael Thomson, Scherri-Lee Biggs (2015-present).
Presenter-wise, if this doesnât prove that Seven is much more stable compared to Nine (in Perth at least), I donât know what will.
Rick and Sue will break the world record in the second 1/2 of 2017
Changes/ clarifications/ corrections
Todd Johnston was the Weather presenter between 2000 and 2003
Dennis Cometti actually presented sport between possibly 2002 and 2006
Mark Readings presented sport between 2012 and the end of 2013.
Iâm pretty sure thatâs all correct now.
Thanks mate for the clarifications. So as you can see, Seven has been pretty stable presenter-wise in the past 16 years compared to Nine.
Simple facts are:
â˘Nick McCallum is a stalwart, everybody in Melbourne knows him & heâs popular (including 3AW radio Sunday Morning program). Jacquie, Dean, Blake, Nathan or whoever wouldnât get the audience.
â˘Peter Mitchell wonât be retiring for another ~20 years
â˘Thereâs a number of other experienced fill-in presenters
â˘(e.g.) Nick had ~250k watch him on Sunday, just a few thousand behind Alicia Loxley on Nine News, so itâs not like everybody hates him or he doesnât pull decent ratings.
I also agree about Jennifer Keyte, she pulls big ratings on any night, is very popular & is a fantastic presenter. She should be kept by Seven at any cost.
Wasnât it Peter Holland and Tina Altieri, with Dixie on the weekends?
Until '02 IIRC
Iâd be surprised if he was still around in a decade quite frankly. He doesnât strike me as the sort of person who will cling onto the job forever.
But I agree itâs not an urgent issue. His replacement will probably be somebody who isnât even on our radars at this point.
You sure about that?
I highly doubt Peter Mitchell will still be presenting 7 News Melbourne at 76 years of age. Wonât happen.
Donât argue with Luke guys, he said that it was a fact.
Okay, call it a logical presumption?
You might be right Pete and Tina did present the news from 2000
Dennis Cometti presented sport on 7 from 1985 for at least 10 years
Dennis was at 7 till 2001 I canât remember if he presented sport for all 16 years
Letâs call it speculation. At best.
Chris Reason presenting Friday Morning News.
With Chris presenting today he wonât be presenting in Sydney tonight, so as @SydneyCityTV said Mark probably working right up to Christmas (finishing next Thursday night).
When Michael Usher is presenting l think Chris Reason or Angie Asimus will be on Friday & Saturday or even Saturday & Sunday roster. But l wouldnât be surprised if Chris will also be taking holidays with his family sometime in January.
Sydney Christmas day bulletin will most likely be with Robert Ovadia.
Matt Carmichael presenting sport in Sydney on Friday & Saturday this week.
Nick McCallum presenting in Melbourne this weekend.
Kay presenting again in Brisbane tonight.
