Yep. Seven News Sydney will always run a Sunday-Thursday and Friday/Saturday presenting roster for as long as Nine News Sydney is doing it.
Seven News Sydney with Ann Sanders. Thanks @SEQTelevision
As good as Ann is, I think on balance Iād prefer to see somebody like Angie groomed for the weekend role.
Agreed.
Iād also be willing to predict that Seven News Sydney will again have a female newsreader (like every other major weekend 6pm news bulletin in Australia has, to the best of my knowledge) on Friday/Saturday nights before too long. Having an all male presenting team in Sydney on Sunday-Thursday earlier this year was only a temporary thing, so Iād expect something similar with the position of Sydney Friday/Saturday night newsreader.
But, IMO, Angie will do worse in the ratings than Ann.
Angie Asimus is the junior in comparison to Ann in my mind anyway, Ann has maybe 20 years more experience than Angie, Ann should be definitely used as a fill in more often.
Jennifer Keyte is back presenting in Melbourne this weekend.
Iām not suggesting that Angie should take over next week but I do think there is more value in using gaps (particularly on weekends) to nurture new talent rather than just having the usual old crew filling in endlessly.
Nine does a far better job at this than Seven does and it shows in the quality of their presenting team.
I understand what you are saying, and I am not now talking about Angie as she used to co-anchor regularly up here in Queensland, but there are two places where testing new talent is not advised- breakfast and 6pm.
Angie is presenting tonight.
Iām talking about nurturing, not testing. Thatās what the 5am bulletin is for.
Amazing how viewership can changeā¦
It was only 5-6 years ago, when for more than a decade, Nine News had been smashed by Seven News most nights.
Iām sure Ian Ross & Chris Bath in Sydney at least helped.
I feel like itās all most competitive & close now across Australia.
On the East Coast, maybe. In Adelaide and Perth, Seven News generally smashes the competition in the ratings.
Seven News has been suffering from an identity crisis of sorts in recent years, at least from a Sydney perspective. From memory, these have been Seven News Sydneyās main presenting teams since 2010ā¦
*Chris Bath, Alex Cullen and Sara Gruen (Early 2010)
*Chris Bath, Tony Squires and Sara Gruen (Mid-Late 2010)
*Chris Bath, Tony Squires and Sarah Cumming (2011-12)
*Chris Bath, Jim Wilson and Sarah Cumming (2012-13)
*Mark Ferguson, Jim Wilson and Sarah Cumming (2014-15)
*Mark Ferguson, Jim Wilson and David Brown (Early 2016)
*Mark Ferguson, Mel McLaughlin and David Brown (April 2016-now)
In contrast to Nineā¦
*Peter Overton, Ken Sutcliffe and Natalie Gruzlewski (2010-12)
*Peter Overton, Ken Sutcliffe and Amber Sherlock (2012-now)
If this doesnāt convince you that Nine News Sydney has been relatively stable in recent years compared to Seven News Sydney, I donāt know what willā¦
Yeah, nah.
Doesnāt that say to you they should stick with Fergo?
Michael Felgate presenting sport in Melbourne this weekend.
Much better than Sean imo
Seven Sydney would probably claim thaid has been their best yeat in 6 years.
With growth for over a year & strong numbers certainly in recent months and during the Olympics.
I think Nine will still lead for a while though.
Seven have made much better/successful progress in Melbourne though (which many may claim isnāt hard with all the local major sport telecasts as lead-ins).
Whatās former Sunrise Sydney Correspondent Sophie Hull doing in WA?
Her twitrer account says freelance reporter
Sophie twitted " Just passing through sadlyā¦ Here for a couple of weeks. Really enjoying this beautiful city."
