Terribly sad but I had a feeling that it was coming in the next year or so. Her ratings over the last 7 years on weekends have always been really strong against many anchors on 9.

AFTER 40 years on Australian TV, Kay McGrath has decided her time as a newsreader is up…to pursue other passions.

“It’s something I have thought about for a long time, it’s not a decision I’ve made lightly – it’s the end of a decade and it’s more than 40 years,’’ …

While McGrath will step away from presenting, she will still “remain part of the Seven family” to do special reports and to run mentoring and training sessions for younger journalists.

“… Part of me wants to stay in front of the camera simply to help with the age diversity because we do need more older women in front of the camera – I feel sad in that regard,’’ she said…

McGrath’s replacement will be Katrina Blowers…“I can’t think of anybody nicer, I know [Katrina] will do a fantastic job…’’

McGrath will read her final bulletin on January 26.

I’ve actually warmed to Katrina since she has been on the 4pm news. She is the obvious replacement.
