That was at the height of Perfect Match’s popularity when Ten was benefiting from a huge ratings lead in. Ten’s news was a good product at that time but Nine, never far behind top spot even when they were losing to Ten, quickly regained top spot when the dating show fad faded.

In Brisbane, we have had double headers for some time. One of the main benefits is that they are more likely and able to send one of the anchors out in the field to cover a breaking story and still have a capable anchor in studio with the rest of the day’s news. Also, you get a familiar presenter when the other one is on holidays.
However, when Seven demoted Rod and Kay to weekends, Nine, too, implemented a double header in Brisbane. It was so only when Nine went solo that their ratings improved. For what it’s worth, dual presenters won’t work on 9 Sydney, so maybe 7 could do it for a point of difference?
There would have been a reason that they poached Rod.

Seven didn’t become number one until 2007 which could be attributed to Sharyn Ghidella replacing Tracey Challenor as weekend newsreader, as well as Seven poaching John Schluter from up the road at QTQ.
At the end of the day, 7 are going to deny until they are ready to announce. Thats no big surprise.
Another benefit of Usher taking over is his work on The Latest Facebook show could increase the younger demographic watching 7 News.

Even the person who “broke” the news (or spread the rumour) has backtracked on the claim. Given the emphatic denial by Seven, they’d look very foolish if they replaced Fergo in the immediate future. It’ll be interesting to see what happens when Fergo’s contract expires but, for now, it isn’t happening.
